British Comedy Guide

Luck

I'm off to London tomorrow to work on the writing team of a new BBC comedy panel show. It's a full rehearsal all day Sunday, in a tv studio, complete with studio audience etc. For God's sake wish me luck, I've never done anything like this before and I don't mind telling you I'm very nervous about the whole thing.

If anyone here's done anything similar I'd be very grateful for advice / tips. It's one thing sat at home in your PJs banging out sketches but quite another being on-hand to supply witticisms on demand. Still, they seem to think I'm up to it or they wouldn't have given me the gig. I suppose...Huh?

Send me your wonderful rays of goodwill and creativity!

Hoy, put those voodoo dolls down y'bastards!

Help! Errr

Good luck!

Fancy coming to laugh at us losers at the News Revue writers meeting?

Which studio? or is that top secret.....

Good luck!

How does this rehearsal work? Are the panels going to tell jokes and then have a big gap where you come up with suitable responses?

Oooooo! Good luck Lee! :)

Good luck!!!!

You f**ker.

;)

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows your dead.

Cheers! I probably would've done mate but I'm not getting into London until fairly late.

Good luck! Christ; the idea of trying to force out gags on demand-I'd probably just end up sitting there like an idiot. Sounds proper scary-but I'm sure you'll knock it out the park Lee!

Erm...as far as I know the panels are sort of half-improvising and half-relying on the writers' input. The talking points and links etc have already been written by us and the script editor but we'll be expected to come up with new stuff on the day. Which is the scary bit I suppose.

Well done though, sounds like it's on route to the big time for you.

Still I found a can of Vimto, so I'm feeling pretty lucky.

Cool. Say "Hi" to David Mitchell for me.

I share your fears, brother. But if I don't try it I'll never know I suppose. I'm just glad it's not just me, there are at least three other writers in the same boat as far as I know.

Do you know something I don't? I've got the schedule of who's attending and he's not on it

It was just a joke. Maybe I was being too subtle!
