HAVEN'T GOT A CLUE

INT. – CAFÉ – DAY

REG walks into café, greets waitress MAUREEN and orders a fry up and a mug of tea.

MAUREEN
(while making tea)
Do us a favour Reg love, 'ave a look at me crossword and see if you can do anything with it, I've come to a bit of a standstill.

Reg picks up paper and has a quick browse.

REG
(smirking)
I think I can see where you've gone wrong 'ere Maur'

MAUREEN
Where's that then mate?

REG
It's this one 'ere, leg joint, four letters. If I'm not mistaken, you've made a bit of a cock up an' it should be "Knee"

MAUREEN
Yeah course it should, well write it in for us then will ya. What did I put then, I can’t even remember?

Maureen puts mug down on table

REG
(reluctantly)
Er well, you ya daft cow, you went and put "Lamb".

This was originally called Of All the Joints in All the World.....but I thought the corny pun might give it away.

Yeah I like it. I have a suggestion ima, you should put your sketches into some kind of format such as a half hour sketch show or a father ted style sitcom. you obviously have enough sketches and it'll give us a chance to view a whole body of work rather than individual sketches, which on their own can clog up the critique thread for other users.

I think that by the time you've got to:

Er well, you ya daft cow, you went and put "Lamb"

the viewer will have forgotten the exact wording of:

It's this one 'ere, leg joint, four letters.

So it's a bit too protracted for me.

Hi Ima - I like the joke in this one - it did make me laugh. For me (and this might just be me) it would act better as simply that - a joke - and perhaps does not need to be made into a sketch. NOTE TO SELF: Must go through my own sketches and scrutinise those now that I have said that to see what are simply jokes in sketch form. I know it could be argued that all sketches are simply jokes filmed but I do think there is a line (somewhere) - please don't ask me to elaborate!! - Hopefully you see where I am coming from but this is absolutley not criticism because the 'joke' in itself is funny, witty and quite clever - it is simply my thoughts having read it.
Maybe it's because it reminds me of the 'blonde' joke I once heard/read many years ago who was trying to complete a crossword and got stuck with 'Old MacDonald had one - 4 letters' and tried to put in E I E I O.?
I look forward to the next sketch from the Ima conveyor belt!
Cheers,
Andy
