Angry Geordies - Do They Exist? Page 3

Jimmy Nail is a mean bastard on the outside. But on the inside he's a mean bastard.

He sung Crocodile Shoes.

I think that must mean he has a sensitive side.

A sensitive side that's a shit singer mind.

It's like Vogon poetry.

I think Jimmy Nail may be a Vogon.

Did you ever hear the story, of how one of Jimmy Nail's Primary school teachers sabotaged his chances of going to a Grammar school, after he'd passed his 11-plus? Apparrently, she thought he'd be a bad influence on the other boys who had passed, so she saw to it that he didn't make it. I don't know what she did, or how he found out in later life, but I remember him telling the story, on Richard and Judy.

This is becoming a bit of a theme for you today, catz.

Something similar happened to me.

But I struggled through to the peak of mediocrity.

I know, I was thinking that.

What happened?

By the way, isn't it funny how everyone from Newcastle gets called a Geordie, and everyone from Birmingham gets called a Brummie, etc, but, when it comes to London, only those with thick Eastenders-style accents are called Cockneys (yes, I know about the whole Bow Bells thing, but these days, it's how you talk that matters, rather than your postcode).

Oh I had a teacher who didn't want me to the Grammar school but I did.

What is it with teachers who hate kids?

F**kers. Angry

Anyway, I thought it made them look good the more students they teach who pass exams?...

Now they can f**k them maybe they'll chill out.

I just remembered a song they used to sing, when they had a kids' variety type show on CBBC, shortly after the 'Grove days, I'd guess:

We're Geordies, we're Geordies
Tra-la-la la la-la
We're Geordies, we're Geordies
Tra-la-la la la-la

Repeat...

Do "Geordie" and "Brummie" actually refer to specific parts of their respective cities then?

I don't think so.

By the way, it's funny how Paul O'Grady would probably be the person most people think of, when asked to think of a famous Scouser, but he actually isn't a scouser at all. He's from Birkenhead, which is part of the borough of Wirral, and is on the opposite side of the Mersey from Liverpool.

Well "Cockney" refers to a specific part of London, so I'd guess that's why then.

And if asked to think of a famous Scouser, I'd draw a blank. I just hear the whiny voice in my head and am paralysed with fear and disgust.

;)
