Britain's Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New.. Page 8

I really enjoyed it, but unfortunately fell asleep before the second installment. I suppose that shows something about how compelling it was, though!

I also thought it was very poor. The jokes were almost non existant to the point where the results show was pretty much just played straight.

Hearing the winners song 3 times in the last 20 minutes summeed it up for me. The occasional bright spot but with massive amounts of filler.

Most people seem to be saying "very well observed" rather than "funny".

I took it for what it was.... a bit of fun.

You guys seem to be analysing it too much and comparing it to Phoenix nights, which iis silly. It's not trying to be Phoenix Nights... it's meant to be a fun parody!

Sometimes I think you forget what "comedy" is all about!

Agreed.

Me n'all.

I think the problem for me is that I didn't see it so much as a fun parody. In my mind it was just closer to watching an actual episode of one of these shows. Like I said, there was the occasional touch of parody, but for something billed as a comedy show, there was nowhere near enough, and many of the attempts at comedy that were presented were (as I mentioned in my earlier post) lazy, the kind of thing that anybody could have written given a spare 5 minutes. I mean, you could argue that Peter Kay is always going to have a tough time with any new shows, as they'll always be compared to his previous work (in this instance Phoenix Nights), in terms of whether they're any good, and in fairness, Phoenix Nights is going to be a hard act to follow. The problem for me though is that even without seeing this in the light of his previous work, this was just a poor show, I just didn't find it funny enough, and whether or not it's just a 'bit of fun', I want a comedy to be something that makes me laugh.

Still, different opinions and all, maybe I do analyse comedies a bit too much, it's sometimes hard to take off your writers' hat when you're watching these things I suppose.

To be honest, you can't parody those kinds of shows, they do it themselves.

Unbelievable! The Winner's Song single is in the shops, you have to be really stupid to buy that god awful song IMO, so the whole program was made to sell Kay's Single, oh dear:(, I am confused because then now the whole thing is real and not a parody of X factor?

Did not raise a smile :(

:O Now that is ridiculous...Always all about the money though, I suppose.

It did fantastically well in the ratings, didn't it? Even beating Heartbeat (although that's a shadow of it's former self since Nick Berry left).

How can you parody something that is beyond parody in the first place? The real X Factor is about ten times funnier than this if you like that type of thing. This was basically just a scripted version of X Factor, it wasn't adding or saying anything different. And of course now we have to endure another Peter Kay single spawned from this god awful show...when did Kay become so unfunny? Probably when his writing partnership with Spikey ended I'd guess.

Is Spikey really up to much? It always struck me that his greatest talent is reaching eighty with a lovely head of grey hair.

Couldn't agree more. I got round to watching this today and I'm afraid in attempting to parody the X Factor he's created something far less entertaining than the original.

Cat Deeley was great, though.
