Britain's Got The Pop Factor And Possibly A New.. Page 7

Anybody else suprised at the amount of swearing during the first slot at 8'o clock? Not that I particularly give a f**k, but I'm sure there will be a the reactionary minority out there who will. There was a lot of bleeped f**ks, bitch, arse, christ, blowjob and a couple of other minor expletives.I was taken aback by it.

Thought it was great lots of funny subtle touches to add to the overall parody. I thought the guy on the unicycle singing Sunday Bloody Sunday was great. Loved Peter Waterman's constant assertions- 'that was the best singing I've heard since Sonya!'

I didn't even notice. Possibly because they were bleeped out.

Was it also the first usage of a Facebook related joke in a mainstream comedy show? There'll be a Peep Show Facebook joke soon enough.

I'm really not sure I would call it mainstream, but I'm pretty sure not. I think I heard one in something recently. And I know that HIGNFY has had it, if that counts!

There already has been.

I wasn't expecting much just because (as has been mentioned) the X-Factor and other shows are basically parodies of themselves already, but I enjoyed it a lot. Lots of in-jokes and kudos to the celebs for sending themselves up, especially Cat for 'FUCKING SHUT UP!' and Dr Fox (who is making an art of taking the piss out of himself in this and The Wrong Door).

Second half wasn't nearly as good, I didn't think as it really dragged (much as the results shows do) but without enough laughs in it, and 'The Winner's Song' wasn't funny enough. First half top notch though.

Worked well as a one-off. Glad it wasn't a series as that would have been a lot to take.

Dan

Must admit I enjoyed it too. The panel playing themselves were disturbingly good, some of the other charactes weren't always totally convincing, but the young man playing R Wayne was very good. It was a nice change to watch something jolly and silly on Sunday evening instead of mawkish sentimental drama.

I thought it was okay, with some nice jokes along the way. I guess my main problem was that we've seen it all before a thousand times. These type of shows are parodied so often - and as already mentioned parody themselves - that you've got to come at it from a fresh angle to justify the show. This didn't have any fresh angles.

(Ironically, I had the same problem with last years Extras special, that wheeled out a tired old parody of Celebrity Big Brother.)

Personally I think it will probably be a mixture of a weakish idea but with some good gags and funny bits in with the lazy gags.

Yeah. Thought so.

Easily the best bit of the entire show was Cat Deeley screaming "FUCKING SHUT UP!"

It's rarely a good idea to mock the inherently ridiculous.

I mean how much sillier can reality TV get?

2 Up 2 Down was a genius bit of bad taste.

Frankly a half hour special on those 4 would have been way better.

I also liked the IRA mural joke, otherwise aimless and loads of filler.

Peter Waterman is not a funny man.

I thought it was poor, it didn't need to be made as shows like The X Factor are much more funny because they're real. I think this is Peter's worst TV outing.

I liken it to Jennifer Saunders' Vivienne Vyle character ripping off The Jeremy Kyle show, it doesn't need to be done as the originals are much more ridiculous and funny as a result.

Spot on!

I thought this was really poor as well. I mean, there was the occasional good moment. For instance, when the songs had finished and they went to walk off stage but had nowhere to go, leaving them just standing around confused in the background, I thought that was a fairly good observation, but the majority of it was rubbish. The irony seemed to be that in creating something that seemed to be looking to parody reality TV, what was actually created was something that did just actually seem like just another reality TV show, with far too little comedy. What observations there were were far too weak. The whole 'they only pick people with tragic backstories' thing is an observation that thousands upon thousands of people have made. It just seemed too easy. Also, yet again you see a Peter Kay programme with dwarves, which he obviously sees as being a great staple of comedy (THEY'RE BELOW AVERAGE HEIGHT! TO THE LOLMOBILE!), and I haven't even mentioned the songs yet, it was basically just 'THEY'RE SINGING THE SONGS, BUT NOT THE WAY THEY'RE TRADITIONALLY SUNG! HILARITY ENSUES!', the Kaiser Chiefs song being a prime example. In short, it was just lazy.

As somebody else has said, there's no need to parody these shows, as they're very much a parody of themselves. This probably shouldn't have been made. It was poor.

This is my first proper post outside the introduce yourself forum. Hello outside world.
