Animated Comedy

I've just started writing the second episode of my animated comedy. I was wondering if anyone knew of any companies, animators or just general tips about getting animated comedy read/made.

I've obviously gone to the usual suspects in terms of straightforward comedy production who sometimes dabble in animation but I obviously feel a specific animation company would be a better shot/another avenue to go down.

I've been thinking of posting an advert for an animator, maybe a student who would be up for making it as part of a project.

I just love the freedom animated comedy gives you to create bizzaire scenario's. I know that the Graham Linehan talks a length about trying to recreate Simpsons-esque gags in Father Ted but found it difficult due to the restrictions of filming etc.

(Like when Dougal looks through the binoculars and there's a hurricane, or when they forget to lock the front door when they go on holiday)

Any help would be great

Have you checked out Channel 4's new animation site? They're looking for UGC apparently. http://www.4mations.tv/

I've doodled a few cartoon ideas. I'd love to do an animation, but I bet it's VERY hard to get onto screen. It's probably very expensive.

How can I make it even harder to get my comedic scribblings on TV . . ? I'll pitch it as an animation!! Only joking, but I think it would be very difficult indeed to get an animated series off the ground. Next to impossible in fact. I'm not saying don't, but christ are you going to have a struggle on your hands, regardless of script quality.

Exactly.

I reckon even a pro would struggle. That's why I only considered it.

Shame because the possibilities are quite exciting in terms of what you can do.

Animation's a good way of getting your comedy stuff noticed though. It was my "Prison Bitch Song" animation that won me the BBC Funny Hunt talent comp. The thing with animation though is it takes FOREVER and the guys are right, it's very expensive to get onscreen.

Here's something that nobody's ever seen - a BBC pitch in animation form for a new show. Basically this BBC producer saw my animation on Comedy Shuffle and asked me and my mate if we'd do this pitch for him. It was basically for a new show starring Noel Fielding. The deal was that if the show got commissioned we'd end up doing all the animatey bits for it. Anyway it was a lot of hard work for f**k all - the show wasn't commissioned and we got nothing. (Well we got a hundred quid. Which I gave to my mate because he did akll the donkey work) So I don't know what my point is really.

Anyway, have a look if you like. (By the way, the guy they got to do the Noel Fielding voice didn't quite get it right, did he?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spOc0qwXDBE

Perry thanks for that link man.

Cheers for the advice guys.

I think you'd probably have to produce something yourself first to get any interest in it from a production company. Like Simpsons and South Park did. That's what I'm trying to do. The animation doesn't even have to be that great, I'd say the audio was more important to get right than the visuals.

I don't know where you'd find an animator though. If you want to try yourself Anime Studio is a great animation package.

thanks a lot shoepie!

keep up the advice coming

I think I'll go for a two pronged attack, try and start cracking on with my own animation whilst also trying to con someonelse to make it for me

Kinda what I want to do as well.

My best advice is to find yourself a Shoepie to do your animation for you:
