Reggie Perrin - Series 1 Page 25

Yep laughed out loud at times. Would almost agree with Aaron but that would be a step too far.

Yep, still enjoying this.

I missed most of it tonight as I went to the pub at lunchtime - had a few pints and dozed off.

A very good episode this week. The best so far in my opinion.

It was nicely updated from the third episode of the original series and I think it benefited from concentrating on the strongest characters (Reggie, his wife, Chris and Jasmine). Also, I was glad that they decided not to finish on a laugh and instead opted for another touching moment.

I would like this series to return again too as if they were to relegate some of the weaker characters to small roles as they did in this episode then it could really work well.

Been a while. Hello all :)

I've never seen the original, so I was interested to see how I'd take to this. Obviously being in my early 20s I'm probably not in the target audience. My opinion is it's ok but not great. Obviously the basic concept (guy who's followed the rules all his life starts to lash out at the accepted way of doing things) is enjoyable, but it doesn't have me laughing out loud. Obviously some things had to be updated to make them relatable to modern business, like all the gimmicks and buzz words coming from the boss. One thing I can relate to is the commuting jokes, which is something I had to do near daily when I was studying so at least those bits get a chuckle :) I missed the second episode but I'll probably finish this, though I'm not expecting much. It's pretty much another disposable late night BBC comedy.

Has anyone else realised that Martin Clunes and Fay Ripley have played husband and wife before? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0361642/

Yes, they were also in those adverts together. Can't remember what it was now.

Definitely one of the best sitcoms around at the moment, David Nobbs still at the helm with Simon Nye (who must know Martin Clunes very well).

Definitely putting decent sitcoms back on the map.

I enjoyed it (it's becoming normal Friday night TV for myself and boyfriend and his flatmates).

I really really can't stand his PA's character.

I love the boss though, so very funny.

Although, I cannot see how Reggie thinks he had half a chance with the hot girl. No way would that happen in real life. Also, from a female's point of view... I hated Reggie for wanting to cheat on his wife.

I think that you may have missed the point a little. He doesn't think he has a chance with her really, and he doesn't want to cheat on his wife either. Hence why he didn't. But he's grown disillusioned with the world in which he exists - not lives, exists - and has become susceptible to these bizarre ideas and fantasies. The little fantasy sequences he has aren't (I don't think) just a tool of sitcom to add extra humour, but they illustrate that although he, just as anyone else, has things going on in his head, imagining things and fantasising about what he might do in an uninhibited world, they're a little extra-twisted and he's a little more influenced from them in the 'real world' because he is so depressed and detached from his 'life'.

I thought they handled that rather well actually.

As in the original, Reggie fantasizes because his life is going off the rails.

Meanwhile, she was interested because he was different and because she was drunk and felt sorry for him.

Good point(s) well made Aaron.

Great episode. Lots of lols for me, and really good to see some development and further time with Chris. Loved it. :)

Wow, that was bittersweet. Very strongly written but a real downer this week, especially the ending :( Is it the finale next week? Hopefully it's an upper for poor Reggie.
