Reggie Perrin - Series 1 Page 19

It's as if this show has chosen a certain level of unfunniness which it is sticking to and so will never get any funnier or unfunnier.

I wasn't fussed about watching this week.

I love the little references to the original series.

I still like it.
I think there are too many cut aways of his imagination (like Scrubs) but I like the little sad/happy bits like him finding the flowers.
Most sitcoms would never do that.

Yes, still enjoying this. I like the fact that it is a complete rewrite, rather than say the way Fiddlers Three took old Squirrels scripts and tacked on a few up to date references.

Loads of sitcoms use sadness, tragedy and pathos

-Scrubs - My Lunch, My Screw Up etc.
-Fools and Horses - Cassandra's miscarriage
-The Office - Brent being made redundant
-The Fast Show - Rowley Birkin talking about his girlfriend who died
-The Simpsons - The 'Do It For Her' scene and the Homer's mum episode

Didn't quite enjoy it as much as last week, I found my mind drifting in the middle.

I'm not talking about that you cretin. :)

I'm trying to say that in every single episode there are several moments of pathos. You don't get that in most mainstream sitcoms. It is a different style. Now go and post on ONE other thread. You know you can do it.

Woooooo. Struck a nerve there Johnny. A woman scorned.....

Whatever you do, don't criticise Aaron.

DON'T ANGER ME, CHAPPERS.

I like it. Therefore it is good. I didn't get where I am today by not knowing if I like things or not...........are we sick of these yet? Because I love them!

I don't want to like this, and I don't think I do, but I don't hate it. There were a couple of jokes that made me hoot but I have imbibed wine and cannot remember them.

I think I have reconciled the whole... erm, thing. It is NOT The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin. It is instead a silly sitcom.

Keep that thought going and its quite inoffensive. I thought Neil Stukes is making a decent job of a new 'CJ'; he seems to fit quite well. Still not seeing how Faye Ripley is fitting in though; seems like a 1970s sitcom wife to me.

And the house is the Medfords' house surely?

What references were there to the original?

I knew someone would ask.

I can't remember but I sniggered when I heard them.

I thought the father-in-law (aka the new 'Jimmy') was poor... too clumsily plonked in.
