Sitcom Writing Idea! Page 2

I have a lot of projects on the go at the moment so I may not be able to invest loads of time, I may even have to drop out all together but I will try my best to integrate into the project

If it's not a 'full house' yet I'll be up for contributing.

T'was an example Martin.

I like the idea of a self help group. It could be a mix of addictions though.

Current Writers;
Leevil, earman2009, paul watson, Chris Moffatt, David Chapman, Martin Holmes.

Right I think that's enough. Can you all give me an idea how much time you're willing to spend on this project. I don't expect 100%, but it would be nice to know if you're thinking of dropping out or going on holiday.

There's no rush to do this, we'll take our time, but let's not be too relaxed or it'll slowly slip away.

Sign ups are still open, if you're interested but it may go to a vote if we get too many.

Sorry about that Leevil I realise it was an example now, I thought it was a suggestion at first, I should pay more attention :D . Anyway I've got lots of free time, I've just dropped out of my Law course at Uni and dont start English with Creative Writing until September, so I'm free most days to work on this in between my own sitcom scripts and podcasts. :)

Wow, Martin your passion for writing has grown then. I've studied law at A level it's boring as hell!

O.k to get a better idea of who's interested in what, lets try it this way, you can sign up for more then one job, but I wouldn't recommend it. So let me know where you stand. This just gives me an idea, so don't worry if you miss your chance...

Main Character (5 places (I'm the 6th)) These are for the people who are full timers.

Incidental character (2 places) These are the part-timers.

Scheduler (1/everyone) This is for someone who wants to help me to work out how the hell we organize this!!

Brewer - (1) Makes the tea!

Any other ideas?!

Yeah I did Law and English at A Level but cos I was doing better in Law and I thought I was gonna do crap in my English exams I chose to do Law at Uni, but in the end I got B in Law and English so could of done either. So I carried on with Law at Uni (which was stuff we'd covered at A Level before so was quite easy at first) but since Christmas I've been thinking about dropping it and doing English with Creative Writing instead, and last week I went a did it. Better doing something I have passion for rather than spending 3 years of my life doing a course I have no care for.

Leevil, I'm happy to be a main character and help you sort things out with how to structure everything as I have lots of free time and have wrote and still writing 2 sitcoms myself, so I have a good idea how to sort things out. If you have MSN you can add me mc_redmond@hotmail.co.uk

Two sitcoms!! I've written half an episode of mine plus other random scenes dotted around here and there.

Well anyway, what I was thinking was,

1. We figure out a plot (of just one episode, as a practice).
2. Each make their character, in detail.
3. Decide who is going to be in which scene.
4. Write the first scene, with the decided characters, with dialog and actions exchanged through PM.
5. Bring the first scene to scrutinized by the other writers.
6. Move onto the next scene.
7. Repeat 4-7.
8. Edit it all together.
9. More scrutinizing!
10. Relax and do it all over again with a new episode or forget it ever happened!

I think with such a team of writers, we could produce a really tight script and characters with plenty of depth.

My MSN: thebigleebowski@hotmail.com for anyone who wants to add me.

I've accepted you Lee. I think we should do it kind of like how Curb works, get a really detailed plot together, work out what needs to happen, what information needs to be told in each scene and then from there let the characters work around that.

"I've accepted you Lee."

Lol, I was trying to think what you meant by that. It sounds like, something quite weird.

Ha, I meant on MSN.

Someone decide the plot then we can formulate our characters round it.

Once the plot is decided we'll have a better idea of how our characters will work. Also give more of an idea whether we can be a main character or an incidental.

Looks like most of you are day timers whereas I'm a "later". We'll only really once we get started. If someone has to drop out I'm sure like Tag someone will be able to come in and pick up.

I like the idea of a self help group.

So what then? Each character has a problem - phobia, addiction or something and it's when they get together?

If so we can choose a problem for our character. What about someone who's afraid of glass maybe - because of it's potential danger. Sits away from windows, won't drink from a glass but a plastic tumbler etc.

Let's kick it off and see where it goes. Take it over from where I leave it with your own phobia/addiction.

Scene inside a pub with floor to ceiling windows. A group of people are sitting around a table.

Charlie : Why do we have to meet in this place? Theymust have the most windows of any pub in town.

B : Nice and bright isn't it?

Charlie : But you know I'm a glaziophobic.

C : Don't give me that rubbish, there's no such thing. You've made that up.

Charlie : Maybe I have but you all know what I mean. Have you heard of anyone else who has a fear of glass?

B: That's exactly why I chose this place. We've all got to confront our demons - and yours is glass so we come to the pub with the most glass in town.

Charlie : OK then. Just as long as I don't have to sit next to a window. I draw the line at drinking out of a beer glass though. Plastic beaker or nothing.

B : Fair enough Charlie. We understand.

SUDDENLY THERE'S A GREAT CRASH OF BROKEN GLASS BEHIND THE BAR. CHARLIE JUMPS NERVOUSLY.

Barman : Heads

(I wrote this before you posted ^^^ that.)

Exactly David. But before you go off I think we all need to agree on this, but for the moment it has my vote.

And I'm thinking Gambling Addict for mine.

Is 'focus group' the name I'm looking for? Or is it self help group?
