CUT TO A SANDY STREET, WHERE SOLDIERS ARE CROWDING ROUND A MARKET STALL. A SOLDIER IS ON A CLAW ARCADE MACHINE, WE SEE THE CLAW HAS PICKED UP A HEART, BUT AS IT IS RAISED IT SLIPS OUT. THE SOLDIERS GIVE A COLLECTIVE GROAN.
Soldiers aren't the only ones groaning. 
Actually, I quite like it.
Not bad, but I'd go for soldiers collecting brains and hearts left from a bombing
As its winning hearts and minds, you've got the hearts bit ok. For winning minds you could have a lot of heads sitting on a wall with the soldiers trying to hit them with an apple or small ball or something.

Well, had another version which was basically that (see below), though just had brains. The head idea makes it much better, cheers.

CUT TO A SANDY STREET, WHERE SOLDIERS ARE CROWDING ROUND A MARKET STALL. ONE IS THROWING ROCKS AT A COCUNUT SHY, WHERE HEAVILY BEARDED HEADS HAVE BEEN SUBSTITUTED FOR COCONUTS. HE KNOCKS ONE DOWN AND THE OTHERS CHEER. THE STALL HOLDER GIVES HIM THE HEAD, AND ALLOWS HIM TO SELECT A HEART FROM A SHELF BEHIND.
