Best Panel Show? Page 3

I hate them all equally.

But QI is ok, because I like Stephen Fry.

ISIHAC have no intention of deciding on a permanent replacement for Humph soon, so they are going with guest hosts for at least a couple of series, according to Jon Naismith. I think Brydon would be a reasonable replacement. Stephen Fry would be OK, if he wasn't doing QI. It's a massive shame she's already dead (for so many reasons) because I think Linda Smith would have made a good replacement too.

No, Brydon didn't host the one shown on telly, Humph did. It's the only fully filmed session of ISIHAC and the full show will be released on DVD later this year.

Tommy Power - The David Mitchell show was the Unbelievable Truth. And you really need to sit down and listen to a few episodes of ISIHAC. Easily one of the funniest things ever.

QI, definitely.

The news that QI is moving to BBC One has attracted quite a bit of anger from those on the QI forums, for fear that the move will result in the show being dumbed down.

I couldn't find a thread to add this to, but did anyone see QI last night? It went out on Dave too, the night before.

Sean Lock was immense. Everything he said was pure genius.

"Is that a giraffe display team? It looks like they've gone to a fete"

Davies: How much do they charge for sand?
Lock: They probably say 'Ah, just take it. If you can get it home, it's yours.'

(On hearing Fry bought Prince Charles some coffee vomited up by weasels because it's something he 'thought he wouldn't have'.)
"It'd be great if opened his cupboard and he had loads of them" (mimes this, pulling a 'Puh, I don't know!' face)

And the koala story was magic.

For me it's HIGNFY - just works beautifully. Though QI is rare in its imparting of interesting knowledge, being clever but funny and silly at the same time. Do enjoy MTW too, but HIGNFY was the topical show that left an impression from my youth, and love Paul Merton on it. Also there's better rapport withthe regulars compared with MTW, whose format can lend to people desperately vying just to say something.

Has anyone seen that new quiz with Victoria Coren on BBC4 that's so smart arse, the question categories are in Latin?

Saw some of that last night. Unlike QI, seemed to take itself too seriously. The premise appeared to be: questions were represented by Greek letters, and they consisted of somehow related words appearing on the screen one by one, and the teams having to complete the sequence of five words in time, getting more points the less words they needed before they worked out the remaining words.

The logic was typically "Of course they're all Danish breeds of sheep" Well, duh

Felt like a throwback to the 80s/90s, with the camera quality and its style, and the contestants (Ombudsmen and judges I think this time) just had that stereotypical geeky, slightly obsessive "oh of course, I know that one, on the tip of my tongue" quality.

Also found Coren's tone slightly harsh. Saw her on the One Show on Thurs talking about playing poker. Which reminds me of a line from QI "sign on a saloon 'Liquor in the front, Poker in the rear'" :)

Anyone ever see "Brainbox Challenge" with Clive Anderson? An afternoon show that could tie a brain in knots

Yeah I remember that episode, Seefacts. One of the best *goes to iplayer. Find it's not there :(*

Surprised no-one has mentioned The News Quiz, sadly diminished by the deaths of Alan Coren and Linda Smith, but Jeremy Hardy and Andy Hamilton can still be relied on for laugh out loud moments.

I think Sean Lock is my favourite QI guest. Then Bill Bailey.

I love Lock. His stand up tour was wonderful, but I've really realised just how much good value he gives on panel shows.

From 8 out of 10:

Les Dennis: It's like people think us celebs all shop at a celebrity Asda or something. We're normal people - it's nothing like that!

Lock: It is, it's just you're never invited.

Haha!

Is there a page with all Sean Lock's quotes on it or something...?

Yep, Sean Lock is superb in every respect. 15 Storeys High must be the most underappreciated comedy of the decade. And he's the only reason to watch 8/10 Cats. Panel show-wise, I'd put him alongside Mitchell and Brydon as my favourites.

I loved it.

Sean Lock is mighty on 8 out of 10 Cats. I like Jimmy Carr a lot, but Sean Lock rules that show. They do have a lot of ropey guests on though.

I'm surprised Lock is even on it. Sometimes he can't hide his disdain for the other contestants.

On a tangent:

Carr: I wash my balls in a cup . . . (Smug) Takes me ages!
Lock: Yeah, they're not big - they're REALLY filthy.

It's funny how some people think a woman is more turned on the bigger a man's balls are...

I mean *some* women (don't get upset, lads) might think that about the penis, but balls?... no.

(Now THAT was a tangent.)
