That's the Texas state flag. You're as likely to see one of them waving around here as you are an American flag.

Canada: .4%
USA: .32%
UK: .94%
Japan: 3.78%
Germany: 10.47%
Soviet Union: 13.71%
Poland: 16.07%

Other figures are here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_casualties

That's .40% for Canada according to your link to Wikipedia.

.4% and .40% are the same thing. Or am I not understanding what you're saying?

Those are horrendous figures, 16.7% that's like 1 in 7 people you meet being dead.

Of course the figures were worse for some.

I wonder what the percentage was for European Jews?

3.71% of the population of the entire planet died in WWII. Astonishing.

it was 3.4 million Polish Jews, about 80% of the prewar population, 90% of Lithuanian population, whole cultures and communities vanished in 6 years.

It's still chilling.

Ahhhh man. I should have realized that. I thought you were saying .04 instead of .40
Sorry, give me some wiggle room today for mistakes, I have the flu (not a cold but what seems to be an actual flu). I feel like shit, can't stop shivering and I'm still doing homework. Sick

It's the time of year for Manflu unfortunately!

There is no such thing as "man flu". It's called the "common cold". Unimpressed

Well if its not the flu it's a flu like cold.
F**k this sucks.

Make your Mrs tend to you lovingly. :)

She's sick too. Sick

Oh. Erm. Hm.

That's cool don't worry about it. We are a nation of onlookers but also silent partners in some great history. We know every other countries history better than our own often times.
The Red River Rebellion was pretty bad ass. If you want a good read and your into comics I highly recommend the award winning graphic novel by Chester Brown titled Lois Riel: A comic Strip Biography.

It's one of my favorite books not just comic books.
War wise there was the war of 1812. It was a pretty intense war between Canada and the US which we won in the end.

Our military history is also tied tightly to the British especially during the two great wars for example Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Battle of the Atlantic, the Dieppe Raid in France, the Allied invasion of Italy, the D-Day landings, the Battle of Normandy, the Battle of the Scheldt in 1944 were credited by the Netherlands for having liberated their country. ect..ect..ect..
We lost 40% of our population during WW2 alone.
Hope that helps.

Yes Curt it does, thanks! :)

And well done for keeping the pesky yanks out in 1812. I must admit to having grave doubts about us Brits having giving them their independence.

Plus Joni Mitchell, Neil Young and kd Lang.

Three excellent musos, it's a fact. :)

Actually a lot of people really hated Winston Churchill. Eastern Europeans whose countries were overrun after the Allies did a deal with the Soviets. When I was young we had some Scottish neighbours, related to a Scottish MP, who hated his guts. And there was the bombing of Iraqis and Kurds when he was colonial secretary. He was also said to be an admirer of Mussolini and it's recently been revealed he was prepared to do a deal sacrificing Czechoslovakia and the rest of Europe to safeguard the British Empire.

Still he does sell jolly good insurance ;)
