After a year in office her approval rating as governor was in the 90% range. It's dropped into the 60s with the advent of her nomination for vice president, but compared to the numbers for Bush (26%) and Congress (even lower) it's clear that people like her.

The vice presidency is really not a big deal, but things could get exciting if we see a Palin vs. Hillary contest 4 or 8 years down the road.

Do Governor Generals count?

Hearing her speak she sounds like Greg Stillson.

The way she wobbled through a speech on the bailout, and then getting caught saying Iraq bombed the WTC.

She said no such thing, but anti-Bush/Palin/GOP agitators are trying to spin it as such. She was speaking to her son's Army brigade as it prepared to ship off to Iraq and said the following:

"You'll be there to defend the innocent from the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the deaths of thousands of Americans."

Al Qaeda is in Iraq. Whether they were there before the war is up for debate, but there is a clear link between a portion of the Iraqi insurgency and the AQ leadership. It was AQ's penchant for horrific violence against ordinary Iraqis that fueled a popular backlash against them and made possible the current, fragile "peace" in Iraq.
