I still say Father Ted, seeing as, as I recall, the film crew doesn't encounter Dougal (until the end), Jack or Mrs Doyle.
And the new guest thing is pushing it in Fawlty Towers, Willie.

There sure is a difference between 'fish out of water' as a setting and 'something happening'. Or is there?
I'll leave now. This thread is making me feel sad and lonely.
I might actually write a sitcom called Fish Out Of Water about a merman who comes to observe the foibles of land-dwellers. That'd be a big hit, I reckon.
Or an Alan Partridge-style reality show pitch: "Michael Fish out of Water" where Michael Fish has to do a series of land activities he's never tried before, with inevitable hilarious consquences
Or how about 'Phish out of Water', the story of a Vermont rock band in desperate need of hydration?
Or 'Fish Out Of Waters', the tragic tale of a Pink Floyd frontman who shits haddock.

Or 'Phish Out Of Wart E.R'. The story of someone trying to use the internet to con the Queen out of some facial blemishes.
Sooty's going to be all over this thread once he spots it.

That sounds like the good version of Marcus Brigstocke's latest Radio Four show.

Isn't the first scene them arriving and the roads being taken in? And then they meet the bloke in the I Shot JR T-shirt? So it's new people discovering the oddness of Craggy Island, they're not regulars.
Like I say, probably being slow, but I did mean someone from 'outside' encountering the established universe for the first time even if they become part of it later - Rachel joining the gang in Friends after walking out of her wedding, a new boy starting at The Office in The Office, JD's first day in Scrubs. Yeah, my POV thing with Peep Show doesn't really hold up, does it? Arrested Development or any spoof documentary has a narrator or people speaking to camera explaining themselves, then the viewer is the newbie, but I was reaching with Peep Show.
How about phat phish out of water?
All comedic devices are shit in the wrong hands and comedy gold in the right ones!
How about a sitcom about a man called Frankie Rage who for some ridiculous reason ends up working as a stress counsellor.
Too trite, unfortunately.
Maybe Tommy Power as a bed-ridden accident victim who has had all his limbs chopped off. In the next bed is an Octopus. We could call it "Outmembered".
