Oh sorry Chipolata here's the line I said I'd loan you.

"#### f**k you ####"

I know you think I don't like you, Sooty - not at all. I think you're intelligent and talented, I just think you're a tad scattergun and can lack focus.

As for the original question about writing partners, I've tried but they always ended in failure with the two of us pulling the project in two different directions.

I mean I've stuck up about a 1,000 sketches and a dozen or so sitcoms/screenplays extracts etc.

And if you look I hope you'll see a steady upward curve in my writing.

Also it helped with areas of writing, like silent comedy I found tricky.

Well I was more building on a meta gag to prevent me having to goto work to soon.

As for 1 2 1 partnerships, you need to be on the same page, and that's rare.

I'm almost obsessively reductionist in my writing, so I frequently clash with those who like the wide open planes of dialogue.

It's why groups I find work better, especially when you're not working on the same scheme.

I think that's what the courts describe as "anecdotal evidence".

Won't you ever let me have my fun?

My fun is to spoil your fun. You know how it works.

Its jealousy mate.

It's jealousy mate

Well I'm glad we've got that settled.

In fairness I did post some very early sketches I'd written before BSG, and they were roundly panned for being inferior to current stuff.

I've never had a proper writing partner. I'm in collaboration with people at the moment, you may have seen Crossed Lines in Critique-blatant plug- but I'm writing my own stuff; I think it would be interesting to collaborate properly with someone on a long form piece. A sitcom or something; but then it might also be an awkward experience, I don't know. I think I'll have a go at trying that at some point though.

As for the critique forum, it doesn't really interest me that much putting stuff on there; I think I've only ever put a couple of little bits up. Big headed as it may sound, I feel confident enough at this stage in my own ability. Plus it pisses me off when people think something's shit; my ego needs shielding.

I'm not sure I need a writing partner to write with but I'd love to have someone to show my stuff to for feedback whilst doing the same for them. Again, its tough to find someone who likes the same stuff as you and is of a similar standard. In saying that I'm willing to give it a go if something came up.

Maybe we should try scriptdating?

Wouldn't that approach mean that your audience is rather narrow as well?

Just jumping in off-topic as I think I may have offended Nigel.

I do not have a problem with Critique, I have read some great stuff in there, including stuff by Nigel and by Sooty, and if it works for people, they should use it.

What I object to is Sooty's constant urging to every writer on this forum that they should post their stuff on Critique as it's the only way they will improve, usually with the argument "look what it's done for me" etc.

Back on topic. Writing partners eh. Another downside to consider (which may already have been mentioned) is that it takes much longer to write stuff in partnership than to write solo.

It's good testing ground, but it's up to the individual at the end of the day. If they think their work is perfect, then I see no need for them to post. What would you achieve apart from a temporary ego boost?

No, I mean some people like gag-heavy comedy, some people like dead-pan etc. There are many types of humour and there is a large audience for a lot of them. So if you write a Office-style sketch and show it to someone who hated the Office its harder to know if it is the sketch they don't like or the humour.
