Dragon's Den Sketch

I have a series of sketches where I describe my versions of ideas for reality TV shows and then give them names that are similar or puns of actual shows and I'll post some of them up soon, just for fun.

Funnily enough though, this one keeps the exact name of the show but has a jokey idea to pitch to the Dragon's.........what I then found even funnier, is that one of the BBC sites is now actually asking for spoof Dragon's Den sketches!

I've just cut and pasted it in the form that I noted it down so....

This is a spoof sketch of the TV programme Dragon's Den where inventors and business people try to get financial backing for their ideas in exchange for the backers getting a percentage of any future profits.

Here an inventor wheels on his invention that’s about 7ft tall by 4ft wide but you can't see it yet because it's covered by a dustsheet. Next he enthusiastically gives each dragon a bottle of drink where the top is too tight to undo and challenges them to try to open it.

He then goes into his sales pitch about how we all know how frustrating it is when we can't get the top off a bottle etc. etc. and finishes up saying that once he throws off the dustcover, they are all about to witness his method for releasing stuck-tight drinks bottle tops.

And once he does this, he reveals a normal door in a doorframe and all he does by way of a demonstration is to wedge the bottle top between the door and the frame, gripping and twisting it to releases the top. Whistling nnocently

That's very good.

I liked it aswell. I wanted to write a sketch where the entrepreneur sells the Dragons a licensed to print money (which is just a crap piece of carboard with 'money license' written in crayon). Maybe you could do it Ima, if you want to.

lol good.

I've got an idea for a Dragons sketch.

We see from behind the contestant reveals something, but we don't see what, the dragons love it, "its amazing" ect.

It's then revealed to be a mirror.

Make it a briefcase and a bright gold light eminating from it. Put it together and I see a Pulp Fiction situation looming - with hilarious consequenses.

Even better Baumski. Thanks.

I love that-with hilarious consequences

Ah, the mark of any film that you *shouldn't* get out of the video shop: 'With Hilarious Consequences'.

Like the original sketch idea, ima but think it lacks a really good punchline. I think ajp's idea is really good, with the money licence printer, as you'd get to see the really excited faces of the Dragons, which you don't often!

Dan

i loved the idea, does any one remember dead ringers when the guy says he wants all their money, and the dragons said, "that is a lot of money, you must have something very special under that cloth" then he pulls out a shot gun?

and the other one where the tramp asks for 50p for a cup of tea and the dragons say "if we do give you 50p then we want 60% of the cup of tea, what is your plan for the money? "i'm gonna buy the cuppa, and then i'm gonna drink it"

does anyone remember these?

Time Trumpet's editing of Dragons Den was the best section of that particular series I felt.

I'm sure a bit of searching would reveal a video however when I typed "Time Trumpet Dragons Den Video" into Google I just got the website of a couple of Welsh geezers; they seem strangely familiar for some reason ;)... http://www.google.com/search?q=time+trumpet+dragons+den+video

That's a good joke and theme! Reminds me of many years ago when there was someone advertising in the Exchange & Mart that for 5 Quid you could purchase an insect killer, 100% guaranteed (else money back) to kill ANY insect and provided with full instructions. Those who went for it received a package containing two small blocks of wood with the instructions "Place insect between blocks and press down".
May be urban legend!!!

Slagg Brothers?

Love the original sketch on this thread - very funny idea. Like so many of the sketches on this critique this could become a whole series of sketches and I think this subject has the ability to have a very wide variety of 'jokes' so would not be too repetitive. When I was reading the sketch I was envisaging a big burly woman with bad teeth who opened the bottles using her mouth - but to be honest the door thing was funnier and not what I expected so nice one Ima.

:$

Yep 'tis us, Baumski. Sorry to raise anyone's hopes that there's comedy this side of the border. For some reason, Google likes us. I think because it's picking up all the shameless plugs scattered around the Internet.

Re: With hilarious consequences: and Swertyd's comment that it's a phrase included in the copy of any dvd that should stay on the shelf. It got me thinking about other phrases to avoid -

Comedy chaos; uproarious; laughter ensues; Crazy (spelled crazee); Zany; thigh-slapping; and Bobby Davro.

... laughter ensues...

Hehe :)

*Any* use of the word 'ensues' on the blurb of a DVD is surely bad news! To me, it says 'You might not be quite sure what to do when you watch this, so do the verb/noun that precedes 'ensues' and you'll be okay.'
