Kate Bush - so wrong, yet so right. Page 3

There's a song on her album Lionheart (track 4 maybe?) where she completely loses her shit and ends up sounding like Miss Piggy. Makes me laugh every time.

Her hits, for the most part, have been ruined by the Alan Partridge medley though.

I was blown away the first time I heard Wuthering Heights and I still think it's fantastic. I've loved some of her other stuff too, although it does seem to me to be a bit hit and miss. Always sounds great, but if you listen to the words, sometimes too bonkers for my taste.

I've never seen her live so can't put her ability in context with Freddie but, having seen Queen 3 times I would be surprised if her performance, overall, was stronger. Freddie had amazing presence but it wasn't just about him. Since his death, being a die hard fan, or saddo, take your pick, I've seen both Brian May and Roger Taylor on solo tours and their versions of Queen classics were almost as powerful as they were with Freddie. Which surprised me a lot.

In my opinion, Queen were the best live act before FM's untimely death, and I'd be surprised if there has ever been anyone who surpassed them.

To put things into perspective on a scale of 1-100 I would rate the following bands based on their performances I saw:

Queen 100
Paul McCartney 19
Genesis 18
Simple Minds 16
Police 9
Rolling stones 8
Michael Jackson 3
U2 1

Controvertial I'm sure, but yes, Queen really were that much better than anyone else in terms of the atmosphere they generated.

I've been a fan since Wuthering Heights. For me, her music isn't a secret passion or a guilty pleasure or any of that cobblers; she's my favourite artist ever, and I don't care who knows it.

Each album has been a progression and completely different from the one that went before. Yes, she's eccentric but she's very true to herself and improved enormously once she realised that she didn't have to follow the normal 'album-tour' cycle in order to be successful. My particular favourite albums are 'The Dreaming', 'Hounds Of Love' and 'The Sensual World'.

Weird I was just listening to her as I walked the dog in the park. She wasn't in the park btw, I was using an iPod. So i'm another fan.

She's wonderful, yet totally kooky but in ways that really add to her.

Here's a moment from Kate that I know I should hate but it's so utterly endearing that she's not afraid of being locked up. Kate speaks 'bird' from the last album; Aerial.

There are more moments of madness that make her important to my past:

Delius - quite surreal - Kate as a swan offering herself to a wheelchair bound Delius, whose face is the sun. Prime time BBC2 viewing back in the good old days.

Maybe if she'd made me roll in the autumn leaves in a country lane ditch then I wouldn't be so much more uptight than a Victorian gentleman in a clip joint.

:P

Any one else secretly love the Bush, despite their better judgement?

I like Kate Bush BECAUSE of my better judgement!

I was around when she first appeared with "Wuthering Heights"... mystical stuff! Been a fan ever since, of course she's been a bit hit and miss over the years but she was/is an original, nonetheless.

I was pretty much with you until you put The Stones at at "8".

Come on man, when did you see them??? NOT 1969 presumably..

Well I can't stand her whining voice.

Yeah, she should f**k off into hiding again.

Well I can't stand her whining voice.

So says the Lenny Kravitz fan.

Really quite a long stretch from being a fan.

I think I'd have cried all the way through if I'd seen them in '69.

Saw them, from memory, in 1990, 1998 and 2003.

I'm not saying I didn't think they were good, just that they wern't as good as some others.

Benn sang whole Kate Bush songs today. Very funny, not sure it's acceptable though!

But still only an 8 out of 100?! Mental. Well done for having U2 at the bottom though.

I can understand about Queen though, I'm not the biggest fan of them but from what footage I've seen they didn't half put on a show.

She's one of the many artists I only really got exposed to, thanks to my older sister. I liked a lot of her stuff, as it was so different and unique. She's definately a (mad?) genius. Me and my sister were like complete opposites, growing up, with my music collection being made up of almost all black artists, and her collection being almost all white.

Kate is not my cup of tea but I admire her.

Wuthering Heights was a stunning piece of music. Totally original.

And now Queen shoud be even better because they have the world's greatest rock/blues singer. Search out Tons of Sobs for proof.
