Personally, one of the problems I think sitcom is suffering from is where shows are being placed. It's actually the lack of good shows being placed on the main network channels that is part of a problem in good comedy finding an audience.

You're right, they don't show enough comedies at prime time, but this brings us back to the soapification of British TV argument. It's easier and cheaper for netwiorks to produce Holby City's and Bills than it is to develop the next Only Fools and Horses.
