Ha! I avoided that trap! I've met you now Aaron, you're too nice to be racist. :P

Wanna bet? :P

Anyway, everyone's a little bit racist.

I found out this summer that my grandmother's mother was German. Shocked I was! But not that it matters, the Dutch and German are the one in the same...right?

Er, yeah, I wouldn't go shouting that in Holland.

You're right, he has got a lot nicer since his Spelling and Grammer Nazi days.

Oh man, you must have done that on purpose?

Quote: PhQnix @ September 10 2008, 8:50 PM BST

You don't speak Hebrew as well do you?!

No, I just like etymology. :)

Quote: PhQnix @ September 10 2008, 8:50 PM BST

Logically it was flawed. They wouldn't have invented an entire name for her. I still like my theory though.

It is a good theory. :)

No, I just like etymology. :)

Aah well. Did you study at university or are you just that clever?

What's the German word for etymology?

Aah well. Did you study at university or are you just that clever?

I didn't study languages at uni. But I'm not that clever either. Must be magic. :)

I do a good Russian! I really need to force myself to get on with learning it.

Yes, you do!!

I didn't bring any of my books with me! Bugger. Oh well, I'm going home this weekend.

I also aim to learn Old English.

Quote: zooo @ September 10 2008, 8:57 PM BST

What's the German word for etymology?

Either 'Wissenschaft von der Wortherkunft' or 'Wortherkunft'. But we'd most likely just say 'Etymologie'. :)

Ooh! I like Wortherkunft!!

Well mainly just Kunft.

I also aim to learn Old English.

As in Chaucer?

Ooh! I like Wortherkunft!!
Well mainly just Kunft.

Alas, Kunft isn't a word. Herkunft is. It means origin.

Oh bums.

But herkunft will do nicely.

Oh bums.

But herkunft will do nicely.

There is some comedy to be engendered here, but not, I fancy, in the style of PG Wodehouse - and so I will leave it to other, more gifted, members to provide.

But herkunft will do nicely.

*snigger*

As in Chaucer?

I dunnooooo! Possibly. I've never read any. Like from the Middle Ages and that.

But herkunft will do nicely.

Laughing out loud
How did I not do that on purpose?

The f isn't silent, you know.

Still: Laughing out loud
