Quote: Scatterbrained Floozy @ September 10 2008, 8:29 PM BSTMy name is Germanic, I think...Just a little snippet of the things flying through my mind...
It's derived from Robert...
But I like to think it's derived from the German word 'Rubin'.

He's nice in person?
Woh, your wrecking havoc on Aaron's internet street cred.

*pretends to know what that means, and goes to look it up*

But he's nice on here too!
I found out this summer that my grandmother's mother was German. Shocked I was! But not that it matters, the Dutch and German are the one in the same...right?

You're right, he has got a lot nicer since his Spelling and Grammer Nazi days.

Angel is of German origin, the German equivalent being 'Engel'.
Rubin means ruby.

Rubin means ruby.
I was going "Cherubin" -> "Rubin" -> "Angel." Plus personal knowledge of Robyn.
(Hee.)

Cherub is Hebrew...
But your being so cute there, just go on. I won't interfere anymore.
Quote: PhQnix @ September 10 2008, 8:27 PM BSTAre you deliberately goading people into calling you a racialist Aaron?
You're perfectly welcome to.
Quote: Finck @ September 10 2008, 8:27 PM BSTYep. It becomes especially obvious if you look at Northern German.
Example: I have a little house. - Ick hev en lütt Hus. - Ich habe ein kleines Haus.
The most basic words are of Germanic origin. But for all the other words there are at least a Germanic and a French version.
I like English.
Yep. That's why I found German so easy and actually rather enjoyable in school.
I'd have loved to have been able to watch Downfall without subtitles.
Quote: zooo @ September 10 2008, 8:29 PM BSTI love Russian and Eastern European accents.
They turns me on.
I do a good Russian! I really need to force myself to get on with learning it.

You don't speak Hebrew as well do you?!

Logically it was flawed. They wouldn't have invented an entire name for her. I still like my theory though.
