Michael Palin for President! Page 2

But.... brown isn't a French word...?

No, quite. And even if it is derived from a French word, that doesn't make the surname itself of French origin.

This one can rap!

Don't you English all have a little French in you? You know the Anglo-Saxon time and all....when the Norman's said "mine" and took it.

Anglo Saxons were all like German and that.

And, unlike your countries, England isn't TOTALLY made up of immigrants. Certainly not recent ones with anything resembling routes to elsewhere.

The Normans spoke French my friend. Hence were most of the English language came from.
And I'm rather proud to be living in a multicultural society thank you. Cool

To be fair even before the Normans, the peoples (even before smaller countries combined to become a distinct 'England' or 'France') of both England and France had enjoyed invading bits of each others countries and sleeping with their women for centuries. You'd really have to go back a long way to find any real "ethnic purity", if there ever really was one. (Except, of course, the Welsh. I mean, who'd f**k them? [apologies to SlagA et cetera])

That is correct. But as we were talking about Anglo-Saxons...

Erm, no. English is a Germanic language.

A good chunk of the English language is derived from the French. It may have originally been Germanic, but so much of the language used is French.

From the CIA's World Fact Book:

white (of which English 83.6%, Scottish 8.6%, Welsh 4.9%, Northern Irish 2.9%) 92.1%, black 2%, Indian 1.8%, Pakistani 1.3%, mixed 1.2%, other 1.6% (2001 census)

WOW That's a lot of white people!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't all life start in Africa? So technically...

*Waits to be corrected, probably in an angry manner.* :P
