Coronation Street Page 2

Has to be the longest running sitcom in history, and one of the funniest, it also has drama and pathos, characters that you identify with and care about, it is the northern Steptoe.
If any aspiring 'comedy writer' wants inspiration it is there in Corrie!

I'm going on a strong stance here, Cornation street is ANYTHING but a sitcom, it is a soap opera, nothing more and nothing much less.

I'm not a fan of it to be honest, seems to be stuck in the past a bit, sure it shows off a bit of working class Britain here and there but still, not my cup of tea... I give it another 10 - 15 years and it will be completely out of date.

I feel bad. :(

What's the Roy bit about anyway?

He's married to a MMAAAAANNNN! Who had a sex change and is now an unconvincing (but real in real life) woman. I actually kind of hate Roy. I know we're not supposed to.

I like Dev too! And Vernon, they are funny just by existing. And I loved Vernon's song the other day.

I was surprised to hear how many people in Canada watch it. I am not one of them though, I don't get its appeal. I hate all soap operas though. I think it stems from only having one TV in the house and all my baby sitter wanted to watch all day was Soap Operas...DAMN IT WOMAN there were great cartoons on the other channels!

That was amazing! Liz's face was a picture.

50 years now.
Or so I've heard

Ken Barlow still as fresh faced.

[ignore this if he died recently]

Wow, old thread!

Who the hell is this Vernon I was discussing?

For what it's worth, I'll say William Roache (Ken Barlow) is one of the nicest, kindest celebrities in Britain.

I was involved recently in a charity event for horses and WR travelled some distance to be with us, stayed for hours, did everything we asked of him and more, was warm and friendly to everyone - and didn't want a penny for his very considerable efforts.

An utterly splendid bloke!

Anyway, does anyone actually watch this programme? I've never seen it and no-one I know is a viewer. Maybe that's just because we all live down South and are too busy attending the opera, having Stephen Fry round for dinner, or busy counting our vast piles of money? Is it any good, anyone?

As Hilda Ogden used to say.. No

As Hilda Ogden used to say.. No

Ooh, yes! I remember seeing the character Hilda Ogden on ITV (or "the cretins' playhouse" as my grandfather used to call it). I always used to enjoy her, as she captured perfectly both the attitude and physical appearance of the typical Northern woman.

It's much more fun than 'stenders, but I don't usually watch either now (as a rule).

Nice to have a page with Julia on too. :D

A scene in Friday's Coronation Street.

Deirdre gets a Manchester Tart (brilliant!) full in the face and continues to earnestly apologise for her misbehaviour with a face full of custard.

Best two minutes of tele this year.

A one-hour live episode this week - and no corpsing!
