FX OLYMPIC BROADCAST INTRO MUSIC
ANCHOR BOB Welcome to the 2012 London Olympics, truly a fabulous time in our Capital's history. Wouldn't you agree Ron?
ANCHOR RONOh yes, it's truly magnificent. London really has delivered the more imitate Olympics it promised after the spectacle of Beijing.
ANCHOR BOBOf course, it's not been without its cutbacks.
ANCHOR RONYes but the way the organisers have adapted the sports to be more cost effective is truly remarkable.
ANCHOR BOBSpeaking of those cost effective sports, lets go live to the Stadium now. Jim, are you there?
FXSTADIUM NOISE, RUNNING, ETC
COMM. JIMThank you, you join us at the start of the ultimate race, the one every sprinter wants to win. They are under starters orders.
FXSTARTER PISTOL
COMM. JIM (cont)The Jamaican takes the lead and wins the 5 metres sprint! Elation from around the stadium. It's a photo finish for silver and bronze between well all the other contenders. And look at that, Smith from the USA never even left the blocks! What a race. Back to the Studio.
ANCHOR BOB Thanks Jim. What did you make of that then Ron?
ANCHOR RONWell I think it's a prime example of how the organisers have succeeded in scaling down the Games.
ANCHOR BOBAnd you don't think the other 95 meters were missed?
ANCHOR RONNo not at all, of course another great thing about these Games in that with all the scaling down. The 100 metre sprintbecoming 5 metres. The marathon now being a mile. These games are not only cost effective but time effective too.
ANCHOR BOBIndeed the whole Games will be over in a day and a half. I hear we are now going back to the track where an altercation has occurred at the javelin. Jim?
FXSTADIUM NOISE
COMM JIMThanks Bob. I can see Hertz from Germany arguing with the Official, we have a soundman trackside.
FXJAVELINS THROWN AND CROWD
HERTZWhat do you mean it doesn't count!
OFFICIALIt went into the crowd.
HERTZThe field is 10 metres long. This is ridiculous. On a bad day I throw 70, ja?
OFFICALJust don't throw the javelin as hard.
HERTZJavelin! That's another thing.
FXBOINGY SOUND OF RUBBER FLEXED
HERTZ (cont)How are we supposed to make this stick in the ground?!
OFFICIALHealth and safely. If you will insist on throwing them into the crowd you use the rubber ones.
COMME JIMWell you heard it Bob, the German's nothappy.
ANCHOR BOBThanks Jim. Well what do you make of that Ron? Not all the Athletes seem happy with our pared down games.
ANCHOR RONHertz is unhappy because the only legal throw of the day was made my 87 year old Arthur Davies from Bury St Edmonds.
ANCHOR BOBWe now go over to Amelia for the coxless pairs. And Amelia I hear you have some sailing news for us?
FXWATER, BOAT SOUNDS
COMM. AMELIAThanks Bob. Yes dramatic scenes earlier when the Australians refused to adhere to the new rules and to take passengers. Under the new rules competitors must bring their own boat and take 2 or more paying passengers from Dover to Calais with extra points awarded per passenger. It's believed that the Australians refused to take passengers in protest against Denmark who turned up with a ferry. Though some may say Denmark had an unfair advantage. The bedsheet hung off of the second funnel did mean that technically it was a sail boat. Denmark did go on to win the controversial race on bonus points after taking 3000 paying passengers. Back to the race in hand. The teams are lined up for the coxless pairs. Of course great hope for a medal here for Britain.
FX STARTER PISTOL
COMM AMELIA (cont)And they're off! Wait! False start by the Italians and oh no! The Italians have fallen in and I don't believe my eyes. The Italians pants have soaked up all the water! The officials have abandoned the race. These pared down Games may have been a great idea on paper but holding the rowing events on a large puddle on the Old Kent Road may have been a step too far. Back to the studio
ANCHOR BOBThanks Amelia. Well it's certainly been an afternoon of excitement here at the Olympics. Join us later for the 10 metres hurdles, the double jump and the 50 metres doggy paddle. Goodbye.
