Laughing out loud

Took a second.

Very.

Very good, bravo.

LOL!
What Rank were you?

Specialist aka E-4. One step below sergeant. I was scheduled to be promoted to sergeant before I got out, but it would have required a 6-month extension of service and that would have meant a 30-day non-commissioned officer course which was a pain in the ass: living in the woods, doing crazy infantry stuff, etc.

Things were pleasantly peaceful back in the late eighties. I spent a few months in Panama while Noriega's thugs were harassing American troops, but I left before the invasion.

I was secretly hoping to get called back to duty during the first Gulf War, but my skills (satellite communications) weren't in great demand at the time.

Ooh ooh! I saw doc the other day that basically said that all sat navs depend on one room run by the airforce somewhere in the USA. Is that why they didn't know where Bromsgrove was?

The GPS satellites are controlled by the USAF. They may be in one room, but very few critical government or military operations are without backup facilities these days. You can thank Osama bin Laden for that. ;)

Europe is building its own satellite navigation system, so in a few years you'll be able to blame yourselves if you get lost while driving. :D

One would have thought that we could 'blame' common sense.

I don't drive. Doesn't matter to me. :)

They'll be controlled from Germany and Italy.

Sounds like a good idea, we all know how much fun we had when those two last collaberated on something.
