When I was a meeting with the BBC Writers Room they mentioned a book called something like 'The Hero's Journey or Odyessey' (wish I'd taken notes).
Any ideas what it might be?

Thanks, time to start bringing like to all my film ideas.
Theres another book called something like seven deadly plots or something like that which descibes 7 plots which all or most stories are based upon.
I think they are:
1. Hero's journey(overcoming the monster)
2. Voyage and return
3. Comedy
4. Tradegy
5. Rebirth
6. Quest
7. Rags to riches
thats the one, cheers.
I'm reading that book at the moment. Really, really interesting.
I'm reading Story by Robert McKee but these two are now next, then to write my blockbuster
Do you like McKee's book?
Have you seen that Nic Cage film about a writer Adaptation where they kind of take the piss out of it?
I think it was most probably the Vogler book, sitting, sadly, unread on my bookshelf.
It did give me the name Ursula Vogle, however, a psychic paramedic and spiritualist in a story I have yet to write.

I've only just started to be honest, I'm not very good with non-fiction books my attention wanders. But will check out Adaptation, the writers room guy didn't seem OVERLY impressed with the book but quiet a few people recommended it.

Ah, Adaptation! Marvellous film with Brian Cox playing Robert McKee.
Yes! When I first saw it in the cinema, for some reason I thought it was the real McKee and got all confused about why he was taking the piss out of himself.
Stooopid.
I quite like the book, some parts of it I've used ever since in my writing.

Probably far less stupid than paying hundreds of pounds for one of his seminars when you can buy the book for twenty quid!
I know!!!
The losers.
Damn Story is hard going...
