I remember it too. Of course Steven Fry and Hugh Laurie remade it. Were there any others?

It seems like producer Michael Mills was particularly taken with them.
I have the 1970s radio series starring Richard Briers on CD somewhere and it was easy and cheap enough to pick up on ebay.
What a shame about the loss.
I do hope procedures are now in place at the BBC and other broadcasters to prevent this kind of thing happening again.
I know sitcoms are not looked on as high art but they're still a part of our cultural history.
