BSCW Comedy Event - Sat 13th September

I thought the British Society of Comedy Writers had folded. Turns out they haven't, they're running an interesting sounding day-long event next month...

This is the press release I've just been sent which explains all...

THE BRITISH SOCIETY OF COMEDY WRITERS is holding a one-day
comedy event at The Green Man, 383 Euston Road, London, (next
to Great Portland Street underground station) on Saturday 13th
September from 11am to 11pm.

Are you a comedy writer, stand-up artist, actor, dancer or
performer who is serious about breaking into the entertainment
industry and seeking genuine professional opportunities?
Interested in writing jokes, routines, sketches, sitcom,
screenplays? Want to try out new material? Got an idea that
needs expert advice? Then come along and meet our guests and
speakers.

Several companies are attending this event looking to meet
writers, artists and performers for current and future
projects.

Actually did any one else go last year?

Get away I missed him, or did I? damn you memory.

How much is it?

I knew it! I knew I'd met you! You were they guy I spoke with who told me they wrote topical material. You said you wrote your stuff in all formats - stage, TV and radio. You were wearing a black shirt. You had dark hair. You had a glob of mayo on your forehead from the buffet.

And his flies were undone.

Did I?

You seemed very exited to meet me.

Well I never.

Going back again? Or do you feel it sucked more than a Balinese whore when the navys in town.

And it was stage, radio and mime.

is anyone a member of this outfit?their website doesn't appear t have been updated for an age.

questions:

are they any good?
is the newsletter of 'writing opps' worth the subscription.

anyone?

my gut instinct from looking at the website is... no

Not really last one was bullshit city and frankly dishonest.

Met some interesting people, but zero and I mean zero industry contacts.

Probably better to meet on the day at the pub and get wasted in Regents park around the corner.

Now THAT sounds forkin' good. :)

And hey, how about it sometime. All of us meet up in London and get DRUNK. :)

Could be fun.

Funnily enough Aaron seems to be organising exactly that.

Thought the meet up was booze free?

News Revue and Treason Show events tend towards the boozy.

Open goal for any one?

The BSCW is absolutely useless to the point of fraudulent.

You're too kind. ;)

Quote: Griff @ August 22 2008, 5:05 PM BST

Are you involved with the BSCW, Morrace?

Quote: Griff @ August 22 2008, 5:47 PM BST

Well, maybe they were good back then. What was your experience of them?

As I said 'you're too kind'.

Total waste of time and money - then and now, as I've spoken to people who've been there recently.

As far as their pitch goes; 'Want to try out new material? Got an idea that needs expert advice?' - you can't beat the BSG. Oh - and it's free!
