Comedy Lab - 2008 Series Page 13

Didn't like it at all and I generally try to find the good in most things. That said the costume department did a splendid job.

It was one of those shows where I sat there thinking: 'am I completely missing the point or is it just not funny.'

Maybe I'm just too old and too crypto fascist.

Bizarrely, I thought one of the problems with it was that it wouldn't particularly appeal to a younger audience, especially not the type of people Channel 4 and E4 really want to reach. The older you are, the more the references resonated.

Although I do think both performers have talent and, with the right scripts, could be names to watch.

Hmm. Not quite sure what to make of it. I thought it was ok at first, then seemed to go down, then up a bit again. I know that that is an inherent feature of pretty much every sketch show, but it seemed to be moreso than some. I did (mentally) tune out quite a bit though, so perhaps that's indicative. I guess overall, I'd have to say that it showed some promising ideas, but I'm certainly not going to be petitioning Channel 4 to have a full series produced.

I thought it was ok, some decent ideas. I found the performances likeable if not hilarious.

Does anyone remember a one-off show, from a couple of years ago, called Biffovision? It was a spoof Saturday morning kids show, and starred two of the actors from I'm Alan Partridge. I thought that might have stood a chance of getting a series, but it obviously didn't.

Yup. It was quite good.

That was a BBC3 pilot, and I didn't get a series I'm afraid 'cause of the whole "target demographic," thing. Also, Paul Rose "de-activated" his blog. *sigh*

M&M Fandango - I have to say I hated this when I started watching it - really hated it, for all the reasons given in this thread. Then in the second half I started to warm to it. The performances really were top. I think Seefacts is right, if this gets a series then they'll have up-to-the-minute sketches and great writing the performers can really sink their teeth into.

So, tonight (Thursday) sees two more Comedy Labs...

First up is Olivia Lee's Naughty Bits - not sure what to expect of that. We'll have to see.

Then it's Pappy's Fun Club - this is the pilot I've been most looking forward to. The guys are really great out on the gig circuit (and, I note, went down very well at the Fringe this year too). Let's hope they've put as much energy into this pilot!

Well that was ... yes. Amusing in a few places, but the whole hidden camera weirding-people-out thing is so painfully tired. It's been absolutely done to death. She seems like a good performer, but not the right show. It probably shouldn't have been made this side of 2003.

Pappy's Fun Club is absolutely awful. Sorry Mark.

True. And Richard Hammonds younger, even more annoying, brother is baaaaaad.

Pappy's Fun Club is absolutely awful.

This is the biggest pile of shit I've seen in a long time. If this show was a football team, I would be chanting:

"YOU'RE SO SHIT IT'S UN-BELIEVABLE. YOU'RE SO SHIT IT'S UN-BELIEVABLE."

Also, the "comedians" involved have the most obnoxious faces I've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen such a collection of annoying and punchable faces.

I can see the ginger one (Ben was it) doing well in the future. But I didn't like it.

Funny coherent and original. It's funny enough to be used as a test if some one's a zombie, communist or an alien.

Only one of those 3 wouldn't find it funny.

Briliant. And I don't care it lacked polish, all the things that were right with Harry Hill, then some more rightness.

The other show was so crap I watched a repeat on Bravo instead, maybe it became hilarios half way through?
