Comedy Lab 2009 Page 2

I'm guessing so. I'm planning to send a full script.

Well, yeah they can, but from what I can tell it's the prod co backed stuff that gets made.

So much for the 'new writers' pitch, then!

Oh well, maybe me and Aid should start getting out 'there' instead of relying on our obviously hilarious written entries.

As I said in my first post, I've almost completed 6 episodes of a sitcom that I've been writing for yonks. I was wondering, if I sent Comedy Lab a script, based on my strongest episode, and it was accepted, and shown on T.V., afterwhich I was told that Channel 4 would like to make a series out of it (I can dream, can't I?), would I have to scrap the episode that the Comedy Lab episode had been based on, or could I just include it, in it's original form?

Carry it on. Hasn't that already happened with a show?

It would appear to vary. The Kevin Bishop Show carried on with six new episodes, whereas the forthcoming Plus One is just five new episodes. Those two (and Free Agents which is also returning) were techinically Comedy Showcase pilots rather than Comedy Lab pilots though so it's still hard to say - it's been a while since we've seen a successful Comedy Lab sitcom.

In theory you ought to be hoping that they'll commission six more, rather than just re-tag a repeat of the pilot onto the front of the full series, as that way you then get more comedy on the TV!

I'm involved with possibly getting something put forward for Comedy Lab 2009 via my producer. My take is that, whilst they will most likely have one or two pilot sitcom episodes in the series, that is not the main thrust of the scheme. I think they'll probably want to showcase new writers and performers, with the greater emphasis on performers. The ideas I've sent to my producer are not sitcom ideas, but rather stand alone stories, mock-doc-coms et cetera, with more focus on the idea that they could showcase a new performer. Will write a full script based on my producer's/C4's feedback, I guess.

I've been really enjoying this years comedy lab thus far but tonight's was just woeful. To think these two got a commission for a whole show. There's better stuff submitted to these pages EVERY DAY. Got to be hopeful for some of us ;)

I wasn't going to send them a complete copy of my stongest episode. It was going to be a slightly chopped and changed version, due to the fact that the episode it was based on, was likely to have been the third episode of the six I've written. The version I was going to send differed from the original, because I was going to add parts of the first episode, to show how the main character got into the predicament he finds himself in, by the thrid episode. So, if it went to a series, I'd like the original version of the third episode to still be included.

I think I'm going to try a submission for this. I dont have the backing of a production company but hey, at least.....um... something reassuring. Anyway, is it scripts or would they like filmed material or both?

So, hands up who's entered this so far.

Not yet. But planning to.

Your tx dates don't match the C4 site! Ahhhhh!!

I've always wondered what tx stands for. I've seen it written loads of times and I know it's to do with transmission but what does it stand for?

I always assumed the 'x' was added to make it sound exciting. Like the word 'sex'.

TX and RX are widely used in electronics etc to mean "transmit" and "receive", so maybe "TX = transmission" comes from there?

I reckon it's because it looks cool. Simple.
