Beggars can't be choosers, but they can be shooters:

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A bus stop panhandler shot a man who turned down her request for money, Sacramento police said.

The shooting took place at 3:45 p.m. Monday at 6th and J streets.

Several people turned her down, police said, and she shot the last man who did so.

There was some sort of conversation between the man and the woman, Sgt. Matt Young said.

A witness told KCRA 3 that the man first told the panhandler "no," and then said, "get a job."

The 54-year-old victim was shot once in the stomach and taken to the UC Davis Medical Center for surgery.

The woman tried to fire twice but was unsuccessful, police said. She aimed the second time at his head, a witness told KCRA 3.

After she fired the shot, the suspect got onto a bus a few blocks away and left the area, Regional Transit officials said.

She was detained before 5 p.m. and taken into custody after being questioned in a Target store parking lot at Broadway and Riverside Boulevard. Police said she had a gun in her purse.

The woman was taken to the Sacramento County Jail.

Panhandler? What's that exactly? I wouldn't expect a beggar to have a purse.

A panhandler is a beggar. He/she may be one of the homeless people who just sit in a doorway with his/her hand out, but increasingly the stand at busy intersections and ask for money while the light is red. They usually carry a sign which claims they're hungry, homeless, disabled, a veteran, stranded and/or willing to work for food. Many are homeless, but their hunger is usually for booze or drugs and they aren't exactly eager to accept an offer of paid employment. They're after a quick buck - some make several hundred dollars per day.

There's a woman near my office who alternates between dressing up in shabby "business attire" and claims that she's a working mom with kids to feed, and carrying a small gasoline can with a sign saying she just needs a few dollars to buy enough gas to get her home.

Stupid people and guns.

Fantastic combination...

:(

Seems unusual for it to happen in a college rather than a school. I always think it's usually pathetic, overly emo younger teenagers that go on rampages. Like a toddler having a tantrum in the supermarket. Only with a gun.

Shooting up the mushy peas.

Ew. Who wouldn't?

My brother. He seems to like 'em. From the chippy anyway.

Weird boy.

Oh lord. Do they come in a little polystyrene cup like at ours?

Mmmm, a cup of snot. Nice.

Yes! Exactly! Bleh.

Hey, leave it! Mushy Peas have their place in Brit-cuisine...as a weapon of choice.

Hey, leave it! Mushy Peas have their place in Brit-cuisine...as a weapon of choice.

And that's why British cuisine is the hallmark of bland.

Heyyyyy!

:D

I love mushy peas. But they've got to be the proper ones, actually mushy, rather than the ones you tend to get in chip shops these days. They're not mushy, not even crushed - just a bit disappointed.
