Nah, he closed his eyes and starting purring.

Paranoid rambling.

1 Iran and Russia are allies, this war has caused Georgia to remove all it's troops from Iraq. Does this weaken US in Iraq somthing Iran would want? (Georgia was 4th largest part of coalition).

2 How did Russia's poorly organised army manage to assemble, attack and win in less than a week? Were they preparing in advance?

3 Why did Georgian forces choose to shell civilians in the opening days of their invasion? A war crime fully justifying the use of force by Russia?

1) Georgia had only 2000 troops in Iraq. With about 130,000 troops in country, the U.S. probably has 2000 troops home on leave at any given time. Also, it appears that the war in Iraq is winding down fast. There were only 5 U.S. combat deaths for the entire month of July.

2) They've been preparing for weeks, if not months. Something like that does not happen without extensive planning.

3) I don't believe any news that's come from either side. The Georgians had been being shelled themselves for several days, but I won't believe they intentionally killed civilians until it's reliably reported by a non-biased organization.

Agree with all your points Dabutt, except 1. US could easily occupy Iraq unsupported it needs other nations for a sense of legitimavy.

Five years ago, yes, but now there's more talk about an exit date than legitimacy. Barring some catastrophe, the war in Iraq is just about finished.

That's an interesting one Dabutt. I think the great unsaid is if US pulls out, could the new Iraqi army keep Iran out?

Not that I'm suggesting invade, more like ferment lots of border incidents. Then go into restore the peace and not leave. Something thats been suggested about Russia and Ossetia, Israel and Westbank etc.

More to the point without US would Iraq even hold together as a nation.

The US did a damn impressive job of destroying it's infrastructure.

It's likely that U.S. troops won't pull out without some sort of defense agreement in place. The Iraqis might decide to keep some troops and equipment stationed somewhere out of the way in the desert - just in case.

Iraq's infrastructure was a shambles before the first boot crossed the border. The orgy of greedy looting by Iraqis didn't help much and the instability-sowing groups like al Qaeda, organized crime, Syria and Iran finished the job. A lot of reconstruction is finally taking place now that construction crews aren't worried about getting shot or beheaded, but it's going to take a strong Iraqi government to see that the work is completed. So far, their government has proven to be almost as greedy and corrupt as the groups I mentioned above. Hopefully the Iraqi people will hold them to a higher standard.
