Loved Sherlock Holmes in my "classic detective craze" days (also included Christi, Father brown stories, etc.). I have read all the books and, when I worked for the local TV station, I translated the series with Jeremy Brett (and naturally, saw all episodes).
The Soviet adaption - I have most films on DVD with English subtitles - still beats anything I've seen Holmes-wise BTW, it is partly filmed in Riga old town It may not be as authentic as British ones, since they are filmed thousand miles away from the real moors and Bakerstreet, but the mood was there, I gather
