Way to miss all the fireworks and show old clips over them.

Quote: Nil Putters @ July 28 2012, 12:32 AM BSTIs it the official Olympic language or sutin?
It used to be the language of diplomacy because it's very logical. Means what it says and says what it means. No dubiety.
Quote: Rob H @ July 28 2012, 12:33 AM BSTIt is pseudo-religious imagery.
I was more hinting for an explanation of your point rather than just a repeat of it.
Do you just mean they're worshipping sport/athletes?
Why do we have to Wheel out Macca everytime?
Well up until the athletes started coming on was mostly pretty good. Aside from that embarrassing tedious section about texting and Facebook.
And the flame was ace.
Well Old Rocker, 'tis possibly the most ancient religion of all: the worship of Fire.
Is the flame staying there?
Are they planning to throw javelins over it?
I notice Lineker has a pinky coloured microphone, and Michael Jordan a brown one. Let's hope Dale Winton doesn't turn up or there'll be a mad search for a bag of cheesy Wotsits.

I think they have to dig that big mountain out of the arena first.
I wonder if it's all hollow underneath, for where those big chimneys came from or were they telescopic?
They possibly move the flame to where it will keep the Queen's seat warm.
Time for a cup-o-tea

Agreed. I was thinking more of sun worship though which is where the flame originates from. Zeus, Prometheus and all that.
The whole thing, from the lighting of the flame on Olympus to this 'ceremony' tonight just seemed to try to endow that that is essentially two weeks of running, jumping and throwing, with some sort of spiritual credibility.
The athletes/judges oaths. Swearing on what?

In the name of sportsmanship!

Nebulous concept.
I liked Seb best.
I thought Lord Coe was quite Oldrockerish in his speech.
He got to the point & expressed his opinion.
But seriously though.
I loved seeing the Fireworks on the Telly
& simultaneously watching them in the distance through the Window.
