So scatterbrained = oh, best not go there.

You really don't know?!

splatterbrained, I guess.
I never use the word 'skit'. Sounds too American for my liking.
Quote: Griff @ August 4 2008, 5:27 PM BSTI love that someone who starts threads about worst-dressed dictators and favourite supermarkets considers a thread about what to call the most frequently used comedy format not to be worthwhile.
But anyway. I just wanted to know if other people found the word "skit" as annoying as I do, and I have my answer.
No one is seriously suggesting you should be banned for using it. (There are so many much better reasons...)
Merely showing appreciation for a very fine pun.
Isn't there a Japanese term for finding perfection in small things.
I had an English friend who ran a Bonsai business. He was so successful he moved to smaller premises.

Robyn's lost her innocence. All because you guys were arguing over an Americanism. Can't you people think of the consequences first before creating threads like these? *shakes head sadly*
Life will never be the same again.
Quote: Griff @ August 4 2008, 3:56 PM BSTSKETCH. It's a SKETCH. I know skit is allowable according to the dictionary. But still. Nobody in the industry talks about "skit" shows. You don't see "skit" shows mentioned in TV guides or on the BBC website or in the Time Out listings or anywhere. You don't see producers asking for "skits". Do an Amazon search on the word "skit" and you get stuff about clowns, puppets and Bible studies. It is now, officially, my least favourite word.
That is all.
I hate it too. Thought I was the only one though.

I use 'skit' if I'm describing something in a way where I'm pretending to know nothing about comedy.
Wasn't there a Seinfeld moment where someone tells Jerry 'And you can sit here when writing one of your little skits'?
To be fair, sometimes 'skit' is a typo. The letters, H and K are only separated by J on the keyboard; so it's quite easy to mistakenly type, say, 'skit' or 'sjit'in error. So, when someone says, "Here's my latest skit...", it's open to interpretation. Therefore, it's better to use the word 'shetch' to avoid confusion.
I called one of my topic posts 'bbc 4 skit' yesterday. I decided to rip it down and re-write it just because of the venom shown towards the word in his thread.
You gotsta fear the skit, man.
