The 90s vs the 00s

So which decade had the best sitcoms?

I'm going to go with the 90s. They had a good mixture of cult and mainstream sitcoms which were good.

If My Family is considered a mainstream hit sitcom of the 00s, then compare it to One Foot In The Grave which held a similar title in the 90s. I think that says quite a lot. Or compare 2 Pints to Men Behavingly Badly - both are laddish mainstream sitcoms. Again, which one is superior by a mile?

I remember in the 90s that I would often be looking forward to a new series of a sitcom. Nowadays, there's not much that I really look forward to. I look forward to Peep Show, but that's about it.

1990s.

90s yeah.

But I'll change that to 00s when mine gets commissioned.

Think I'll probably still stick with the nineties. ;)

I don't blame you, to be honest.

Thing is, there's nothing sitcom wise nowadays that has any "oomph" in it.
Nothing that will be memorable in years to come.

Seems these days that most current sitcoms are pretty mediocre, with too many cliche plots and starring university rejects who can't act.

This is because, more and more, the Marketing 'suits' are running the show. Talentless twats. I know, I worked in Marketing for years.

I beg to differ.

I beg to differ your beg to differ.

Peep Show and Garth Marenghi's are both culty though. Garth Marenghi incredibly so.

They'll be remembered by a small but dedicated audience, but that's all.

Well you didn't specify that in your earlier post.

Anyway, I think Peep Show is pretty mainstream. Not Merenghi though.

I don't think Peep Show's audience figures count as mainstream. Although in content, yes it is mainstream.

Definetly the 90's:
- One Foot in the Grave
- Father Ted
- Keeping up Apperances
- Men Behaving Badly
- Bottom
- Goodnight Sweetheart
- Mr Bean
The list could go on.

Is that supposed to be like, some kind of insult?

*puts brick in sock*

00's for me:

Early Doors
Royle Family (most of them were in 00's)
Not Going Out
Grass
Gavin and Stacey
