Topical sketch ... could News Revue stage this?

EXT. HUNDREDS OF STEERS WITH COWBOYS. THE STEERS STAMPEDE.

BRIEFLY CUT TO -

NEWSPAPER HEADLINE: "Stampede kills 145 Hindu worshippers in North India!"

CUT TO

EXT. LOTS OF HINDU WORSHIPPERS FLEEING THE STAMPEDING STEERS.

-----------------------------------------------

Perhaps Treason might be a better bet for this? ;)

I dont think either show could stage it. I don't get it either.

I haven't even read it, but No Frankie, No!

Maybe if they understood the joke - what's the news story?

If you sent them an image, or a video they could do it as a caption.

They have a big screen.

But the meannes of the gag out weighs it in my view.

Sorry.

Now if you did the joke that some Hindus went to Pamploma to avoid the crowds, and got stampeded or something could work?

Ohhhh, I get it now.

Took me a couple of reads.

I was thrown by the whole Hindu thing. I thought they were worshipping the cows...

For the gag to work, you would need to lose the first piece of footage. Go straight to headline (or announcer), so the audience have their own mental image of Hindu worshippers killed in a stampede, then go to the footage of them being trampled by steers.

Mean? Naw, it's a sketch.

Nothing mean is intended and nobody would get trampled - that wouldn't be funny.

The headline is real enough, but the sketch isn't.

I was being silly about it being one for NR or Treason.

I see it more as a video. In reality, it would have to be a made up (similar) headline, stock footage of cowboys and a herd stampeding and some 'keystone cops' type Hindu's as extras.

What got me about this tragedy in the news is how could they possibly describe humans as 'stampeding', which is basically what happened today or yesterday. It's on www.yahoo.com news.

Thanks for the input. I would probably do it if I did it, as Timbo suggested.

:)

Yep, I get it now, that would work.

I know it's pretty crass to do a sketch about a tragedy, but I am pretty crass. :(

That's the funny bit, thats the disonance the use of the word stampede.

That's where your skit should be starting.

Mmm .. I guess I could have a guy reading the article and being non-plussed by the word 'stampede' and then a thinx bubble where the action occurs. He could then shake his head and start writing a letter to The Times. '... angry, from Rotherham'.

Hmm I'd do go for an Indian news reader, and an American news reader, reading the news and rephrasing each others stories to be more and more offensive about the other.

That's a twist on it. That could make a good sketch in it's own right.

It's good to have you guys to bounce (stupid) ideas around with! :)

Don't they call it 'thought showers' in 'now speak'...?
