I thought about sending mine there - but it's my baby and it will just go into a massive void.

Quote: fatbloke @ August 3 2008, 12:12 AM BSTThey say only 2% of unrepresented authors (authors without agents sending in manuscripts)get published. Less than 2% of them can actually afford agents so where in god's name do you start??
You pay agents if THEY get you the work I thought.
Yeah.
But the sentence makes sense if you swap afford to just 'get'. It can be quite hard.
You've had stuff published haven't you, zooo?
Not in book form.
Well, with the whole book being mine.
As in a book type book, no.
LEAVE ME ALONE!

Oh so you had one of your poems in one of those 'Anthology' books! I got yer!
I've never written a poem in my life, sir!
I resent the implication!
zooo, zooo, she sniffs glue

Once upon at time......

Yeah, that's right.
They work on commission, currently around 10 - 15%
That's why it's so bloody hard to get representation, coz they ONLY want to take on the writers who they feel will make them the most money.
Book agents will take 15 %
TV agents between 10 to 15%
Heh heh
Trouble is, even writing has gone all x-factor with every Tom Dick or the other bloke (and his second cousin, three times removed) thinking they can write...
....resulting in slush piles becoming slush mountains.

They're hardly going to do it for love are they!
Unless of course... No!No!No!
Anyway I'm going to look into Lulu. I wonder though if you get to a certain level they'd allow a major to pick up on it.
