How do you get a book published?

Is there any publishers you could recommend I email?

No wonder it's a best seller...

There are so many writers who are 'quite good' and want to get published who are buying it!

About the worst thing to be is 'quite good' as you are one of gadzillions!

It's better to be 'brilliant' or 'total crap' because at least then you'll get noticed.

To no one in particular, of the three, which one are you? ;)

Me?

Well I'm heading nicely away from 'quite good' I'm glad to say and just about on 'mediocre to poor' these days.. it's been quite a struggle, I'm telling you!

do you have a budget?? you can 'self-publish'
costs a few hundred £ though...

I used to get the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook but changed to this which I think is a lot better.

I hope this one's not a 'Best Seller'..

No it doesn't.

Nothing to pay up front with 'Lulu' - only they take commission when you sell. You can't go wrong.

N.B. Not to be confused with 'Vanity' Publishing, which is taking a battering from Lulu for obvious reasons!

Morrace and griff have the right idea....trust me, I was once upon a time a literary agent

From what I can gather, at least one BSG-er (Baumski) published himself and because it was such a great idea thereafter he had big publishers gnawing his hand off. So, if you have a great piece of work (and enough confidence in it to think self-publication isn't a vanity thing) then self publishing can work. But you are already publishing plenty of stuff, Norman - it's just on the internet.

This might help along the way!

Why?

Why?

'Cos there's a page in there about asking dumb questions.

Anticipating your next question - I forget the page because I jumped the 'Memory' section.

Wave

What was dumb about the question in a forum for writers asking for help from other writers?

Have I missed something?

No, I meant that it was worth noting *who* had suggested it was dumb, and taking that into account. Not that nobody had suggested it. Thanks for the "Mr" by the way, it's quite nice and civilised, Mr P. :D
