To be fair it is hard to resist a free bar when you feel like you've earnt it through your writing - it feels like you're finally getting rewarded for all that hard work. Went to a Channel 4 event and was tipsy enough to be constantly being moved out of shot by the camera crew that was there. No calamitous results though.

Quote: Mike Greybloke @ July 31 2008, 9:19 AM BSTI got nominated for a BAFTA for this:

The category was "Animated Short Film" and it didn't win. But I got a free dinner at the awards night and made a hideous drunken prick of myself, so that was good.
And by "good" I mean "totally wasted opportunity".
Wow, that was amazing! Unbelieveably brilliant.
Lots of questions, but I'll wait for your 'Meet the Writers' interview first.
We've won a few things over the last few years but the best achievement for me was a phone call from a reasonably well-known UK actor, who's breaking into America, regarding a screenplay his people commissioned us to write for him. It was nice to be stroked by a famous voice. The screenplay is still in 'development hell' but the memory keeps me warm whenever I'm attacked by my failures and doubts - which are many and often.
Kudos to James, Mike GB, Marc P, and Simon too.
New rule zooo has made up for inclusion in her future dominion:
You're not allowed to half name drop!
Either go all the way, or don't torture us at all!!!!!
When I was a fashion writer we had to attend a lot of events with free booze and to be honest, when you're expected to attend these and then get into work the next day, several times a week, you tend not to over-indulge.
I remember some *champagne label* fashion awards when instead of mingle with the stuck-up fashion types I hung around with the paps, and had to tell them who many a z-lister was. They were actually a better laugh than the fashionistas I was supposed to be networking with, so I kept nicking drinks for them all night. It ended up with myself and a collegue 'helping ourselves' to a few large bottles of champers from an artfully designed display and getting caught running off with them. We weren't invited back the next year...

Sorry zooo
Quote: SlagA @ July 30 2008, 5:58 PM BSTTo be honest I prefer avatars that don't let me see the person; gender, age, and drop-dead beauty shouldn't really change the way I react to a person. Although it often does.
Hmm... drop dead beauty and my avatar DEFINITELY don't go hand in hand!
I actually prefer to see the real person in an avatar, but that's just my own preference.
Actually, I've forgotten what this thread was about.
