I think that he's one of the people who have moments of enlightenment, as 'twere. And is somewhat, erm, 'specialised' in his areas of intellect and common sense.

No, please don't. He is an awful comedy actor. Such a relief that after screwing up the pilot for Roger, Roger he was replaced by the excellent Philip Glenister.
