Current radio comedy... Page 4

Tomorrow, Today! is quite fun. I just heard it for the first time yesterday.

Agree with that. Just heard it last week and was entertained by both series (especially the Dr Who episode!)

Dan

I heard Hut 33 for the first time this week. Not bad. No real laugh out loud stuff, but it trundled along in an aimiable enough way (kind of like an awful lot of Radio 4 comedy). I'm very much looking forward to the new series of Bleak Expectations starting tonight, although some of the previews imply it's not as good as the first. Hope they're wrong.

Oo, tonight? *sets reminder*

Stick with it - Like all the best sitcoms, Hut 33 gets better as you listen to more episodes and get to know the characters and their backgrounds better.

Interesting fact you might not have picked up: the scary polish secretary is played by Olivia Colman... sounds nothing like her does it!

I'm not sure where you got that impression from. Most of the previews have been very positive indeed: https://www.comedy.co.uk/radio/bleak_expectations/press/

I have my sources.

You should! You really should. Start with series one though, as it's a linear tale.

I doubt you need to have heard the first series to enjoy the second. It'll be a brand new story. That said, it will be crucial to catch tonights first episode.

Anyone hear Fordham and Lipson last night? I thought some of the sketches were very good, especially the low-key domestic ones, like the son putting himself into a home. Not so keen on the media parodies, like An American Law Firm in London. Reminded me of Mitchell and Webb, the radio version, not the tv one where again the media stuff took over.

The Adam Buxton show on Radio 4 on Thursday was great, and actually made me laugh out loud a few times.

I listened to Bleak Expectations yesterday. Very good. You'd definitely get far, FAR more out of it if you've already heard series 1 though.

Just listened to Tomorrow, Today. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I listened to episode one earlier in the week - at first I thought it was the worst radio show I'd ever heard, until I realised the opening clip was deliberately bad.

For the record its currently a busy time for radio comedy. We've guides to the current repeats of Tomorrow, Today!, Hut 33, Fabulous, Fordham And Lipson and Potting On on the new site. Plus, all the new series that are just starting, which include:

Kicking The Habit (Weds @ 11.30)
Mark Watson Makes The World Substantially Better (Weds @ 18.30)
Bleak Expectations (Thurs @ 18.30)
Armando Iannucci's Charm Offensive (Fri @ 18.30)

I'm going to see Armando Iannucci's Charm Offensive at the Fringe this week (it is being recorded this Thursday). Before that, I'm attending a recording of Count Arthur Strong's Radio Show! just before as well.

There is some recent comedy being repeated on BBC 7, such as Knocker (Sun @ 23:00) and No Tomatoes (Sun @ 23:15).

I wish you hadn't told me! Last week I was imagining some sexy scary six foot Eastern European actress playing her, now all I see when I hear her is Olivia Coleman. Good episode last night, though.

All I hear is the hour slot on Radio 2 on a saturday lunch time.
