Current radio comedy... Page 2

True, my radio listening is mostly restricted to Radio Four in the car. I have to say I was unprepared for this morning's commute. I switched on to a half-hour documentary about the sex lives of people married to partners who have had gender reassignment surgery, and so find themselves in same-sex relationships even though they are straight. The temptation to switch over to Ken Bruce's Popmaster was enormous.

Hilarious...

What is Fighting Talk ? I'm instinctively wary of FiveLive.

It's a pundit's sports quiz (also available as a podcat). Will be back at the beginning of the football season but if you go to the Facebook group (Fighting Talk Appreciation Society), there are instructions on how to download practically every episode from the last five years. Just finished the day before the Euro final.

Have a listen -- you won't be disappointed.

But you don't need to like cars to like Top Gear. That's all I'm saying...

I can't really get in to BBC Radio comedy. Seems too MOR for me.

And why do radio performers have to put on such ridiculous voices? They either sound insane or like smarmy know-alls.

Actually I suspect you do have to like cars, at least a bit, to like Top Gear ?

Nah, I don't even drive let alone have any particular interest in cars, and it's still one of the funniest programmes on television.

There's a certain amount of truth to this, but Radio 4 does cater to quite a wide demographic, ranging from students to the nearly dead. And when it works - That Mitchell and Webb Sound, Ed Reardon's Weak, The Museum of Everything, Clare in the Community, I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, The Now Show, etc - you get stuff that is just as good as anything on TV.

Yes I'd especially have liked to see Double Science go to TV.

A TV pilot was filmed at some point, so it might well get to go onto TV. I certainly hope so too... Hut 33 is the other comedy I'd like to see transfer over (if for no other reason than to see Olivia Colman try and represent her character in a visual medium).

The forthcoming Miranda Hart's Joke Shop is looking like it'll be the next radio hit (and will transfer to TV I'm sure!)

Just as a footnote to all readers, as you may or may not have realised, we've already started the process of covering radio sitcoms on our new site... https://www.comedy.co.uk/radio

I thought MHJS was already filming a series or am I mistaken?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they've already filmed the pilot for it.

Anybody listening to the repeats of Count Arthur Strong that are on at the moment- utter genius!

I LOVE HIM!!!!

Sorry Griff. My DAB only has about 10 stations!

Yeah, same as my brother's, which I appropriated. It's a pretty radio though.

It's really weird listeing to 6music not on my computer.

I'm crying with laughter after 10 seconds !

:)

Me too!
Some people just don't get it. But it's flipping hilarious.

Go and see Count Arthur Strong. He is brilliant.

I'm actually going to see him when I go to the Fringe next month.
