British Comedy Guide

New channels

Following on from UKTV G2's transformation to Dave, UKTV announced this week a number of other changes to their lineup.

First off, UKTV Gold +1 will be scrapped. It is to be replaced by Watch, which sounds like a BBC catchup service, holding shows such as Torchwood and Lark Rise To Candleford.

Next, UKTV Gold itself will be renamed GOLD - aka 'Go On Laugh Daily'. It'll be 100% comedy, but sounds like the programming won't change much from the current offerings. Hopefully they'll vary in time.

Finally, UKTV Drama is to become Alibi, and will screen 100% detective/police drama programming.

Full news is here.

What do you think?

Aye, would be nice. At least UKTV Gold - and presumably GOLD - is on Top Up TV though.

What do you think?

Smarmy how will we continue?

Who the hell wants a 24 hour detective/police drama channel?

Them, apparently.

If it shows Columbo or Poirot I may tune in.

If it was just back to back Cracker, I'd be up for it.

Is that a euphemism?

I've never been into Detective shows. You just sit there, waiting for the end to come, so you can find out whodunnit. Far too boring for me. I'd much rather flick through the channels, and find a good comedy show instead.

And on the subject of channels ... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7503345.stm !

I read that Sheffield-based Rewind TV is planning to launch on Sky channel 190 on Thursday 23 May with the promise of a presence on other platforms to come.

Tony Hancock will return to TV screens with his self-titled 1963 ITV series that has never been repeated on UK TV before.

The stars of GlobeLink News will make a return as the Channel 4 sitcom Drop The Dead Donkey as will Clive Anderson's Whose Line is it Anyway?.

Other shows that are set to be broadcast include The Beiderbecke Affair, Shine On Harvey Moon, The Charmer (Nigel Havers) and Department S, first released in 1969, starring Peter Wyngarde.
