How Did They Get Away With That?

RE: 8 of 10 cats

I've just seen Jimmy Carr end the show with a statistic about UK bank notes....

Apparently the person the public would like to see most on a bank note is Princess Diana.

Carrs ending gag was:

How can you have a picture of a dead person on one side; and the person who killed her on the other.

Given the very public court case how is this remark still allowed without fear of reprisal?

I doubt they care.

(And it's "satire" anyway, I guess.)

Yeah, I guess they are saying it is so obviously a joke and no-one could take it seriously (especially on the back of the court case). That, and no-one's watching.

Yes - that too!

No idea how they got away with that - but their highly-paid legal rep will.

They're always making jokes like that on Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You. It's not exactly unusual!

I thought 8 out of 10 Cats was really funny tonight.

I really like it - I'm not sure there's a panel show I don't like actually.
Missed tonights though, but I'm guessing it ends with a gag about Diana?
It doesn't seem to be on 4 overdose yet, so guess I'll have to wait till tomoz.

Well, I guess half thr joke is that it's stirring that who hornet's nest further.

On my (short lived, student) radio show we did a fake advert about a company that helps you fake your own death... and one of the 'satisfied customers' was very clearly Princess Di.

Laughing out loud

That sounds great.

This was around the time of the inquest too. I'm amazed we got away with it actually.

The queen very rarely sues any one. And certainly not over satire.

The unofficial slogan of the Royals is,

"never explain never complain,"

I suppose the risk is much less by accusing the Queen anyway, rather than the Duke of Earl who was much more closely involved in the plot.

I was watching Bottom Live on Dave last night and Rik and Ade were pretending they were climbing into "Her Maj's Vag". Then Ade sniffed his fingers, pulled out and said "I think I was up the wrong hole".

*Puts down sandwich*

Not hungry now . . .

Jimmy Carr . . . says it all really

To quote Bernard Manning . . About as funny as a fire in an orphanage.
