British Comedy Guide

Films that make us sad.

We comedy types are a roughty toughty bunch. If the queen was assassinated tomorrow most of England would be blubbing and buying flowers to rot outside Buck palace. But we comics, we'd be sending in a 1,000 versions of The Queen is Dead, or God slays the queen to News Revue.

But what film makes you sad, maybe blub a little? Penetrates that hard concrete, satire ridden heart of yours?

Me

Testament, about the saddest Nuke war film ever. Where the mum is sewing her daughters shroud, whilst talking about all the stuff she'll never do.

Plague Dogs, that ending.

Watership down, a couple of bits were dead sad.

Sophie's Choice, the choice scene, of course.

The Deer Hunter - the last bit, when DeNiro goes back for Walken.

Anything with River Phoenix. But especially Stand By Me.

We were made to watch that at least once a year at primary school and I always cried like a baby.

Two other films that always make me cry are Forrest Gump - when he's talking to Jenny's grave; and The Railway Children - when their dad comes back.

That is a very sad film, did you ever read the book?

Oh don't start on "The Railway Children"! It's banned from our house, because even if I say "Daddy! My daddy!" in a clipped accent, my mum starts blubbing.

I cry at any old shit sometimes though.
See Romeo + Juliet, and Titanic. Rolling eyes

The Railway Children? Yes, only once a long time ago though.

Oh yes, cried buckets at Titanic at the pictures - quite embarrasing actually!

The movie "Jumper" that came out recently... it's so sad they compressed shit into a movie then charged me £6.50 to watch it!

Cool
We are the cool ones. Oh yes.

I also cried once when Pee Wee Herman's bike got stolen.

Watership down, I'm afraid blokes will always watch that film for a very different reason.

Jenny Agutter...red pants......train as phallic symbol....in the nudey in Walkabout 2 years later.

Sorry was distracted/

I cried in Titanic I thought my bottom had died of numbness, at about the same time as spud face.

n.b. did any one else see Testament?

In Watership Down???? :(

PS Jenny Agutter was not in Watership Down, you mentalist.

I think that was meant to be Railway Children.

Didn't say cry. Said make us sad. So I am going with Robin Hood Prince of Thieves - as I am a huge Robin Hood fan.

:)
