The took box is the range of skills you have that you bring to your writing.

Empathy means - Identification with and understanding of another's situation, feelings, and motives.

I think it is possible, up to a point, for a writer to extrapolate from his or her own response to experience when writing characters, without necessarily being able to project those responses onto others in real life. I do not doubt that there have been successful writers with sociopathic tendencies. But such writing will always have a narrowness of outlook and essential meanness that does not make for warmth in a sitcom.

I know sympathy is in the dictionary between shit and syphilis.

I've just started posting in Critique, and I've found negative criticism to be more useful than positive. I welcome it, I tell you! Mind, I like positive criticism better. I'm complicated like that.

Still, we're all writers in there. It should be well within our capabilities to criticise a piece using neutral, objective, dispassionate language.

Nobody likes a smart arse. Is that one you're poking in the eye Griff?

Because it's an indicator to their personality. People who use that kind of metaphor invariably consider themselves to be winners and everyone else to be losers.

Who used that metaphor? I spoke about losing in a schools sports day...that wasn't a metaphor, i was last.

You seem to have a hang up about the issue and have elevated the terms to encompass so much of your life that you let it dictate who your friends should be. Were you beaten by a winner as a baby? Choke on a gold medal once?

Seefacts only asked the question because you said the following for no obvious reason:

"Empathy is for LOSERS Marc, not for people who want to be WINNERS"

You know your sig, Griff.
Is it all spelled correctly?
Cos I don't get it.

I get why you posted it. People had been talking about success and failure/good and bad...i mentioned the word loser in relation to a school egg and spoon race and it unleashed your "winners are evil people" attitude.

As the Chinese say "The pig will laugh up at the monkey but he'll never learn to climb their tree"

Coo ur gosh I luv molesworth cheers cheers cheers

Er...

Anyway, on the whole I think winners should get on with winning, and not waste their time banging on and on about how winny they are.

Tom is trying to point out that even a monkies arse is higher up than the mind of a loser.

zooo - It's a quote from Whizz For Atomms, in which not a single line is spelt correctly.

Aha! Thank you.
I can now let it stop bothering me.

So why did you say "for no reason" ?

I was being polite, i thought you were all for that?

Quote: Griff @ July 5 2008, 6:14 PM BST

You see, you haven't understood a thing I've said.

Do you need a flux capacitor to back track that far? You posted a "supposedly" sarcastic comment, yet when challenged you did your little "winners are bad" speech. It was out of the blue, no one had raised winning or loosing in that way.

You better get on with some more winning.

You don't tell the monkey to climb the tree....that's just where he lives.
