Is this the competion where you send Tony 'Hustle' Jordan your best ideas for a new TV programme?

Whistling nnocently

Yeah, that's the one.

I've sent my entry off.

I sent the first 10 pages of a 2 part drama that had been buzzing round my head for ages.
Finally got off my back side and got it written.

I've already completed part one of my drama, and have started writing part two, so I'll have it finished soon. :)

Yeah. I sent him one about a detective in a coma who goes back to the 70s the other year. Heard f**k all back. Obviously it was a rubbish idea.

Yeah? I sent an idea off in the 60's about a time traveller in a blue box.
Heard nothing either. :(

I planned to go in for this, and came up with an idea. But 60 pages by the end of next month is a big ask, especially with some other projects on the go. OK, I know they technically only want 10, but if they ask you for the other 50 and you ain't got them, what will the harvest be then?

Well, they ask you to "have them ready" so I guess it's always better to send a script you've already written or will have finished by the end of September.

I'm "timing" all my writing by various competitions and requests.

i.e., I wrote my drama first for Red Planet, then I'll be writing a film screenplay by the Sept deadline for the Rise Films contest.

I'm then going to be writing a play for the Nov deadline for the High Tide contest that's featured on the Opportunities section of BBC writersroom.

As the prize is £5k and representation, are you allowed to enter if you already have an agent? Not to sound like an agent-having wanker or anything.

I know in the Rise Films Summer Challenge Contest, in the terms on the application form, it says you cannot have representation...

....not sure about Red Planet though.

Mind you, it doesn't mention it at all either on the Red Planet website or on their aplication form.

Your best bet would be to email or phone them.

Didn't it say something about a 6 part series? Maybe I just thought it said that.

No, don't think so.

Don't think they had any format/episode count in mind.

Aren't postal deadlines great?
Four days to go. I've got my envelope addressed and stamped - weighed with blank pages.
But when is the latest safe time to send it First Class?

They want a 60-minute script. So that kind of rules out sitcom. But ideal for "comedy drama". (But not "dramedy". Never "dramedy".)

This was posted on this site a few months ago, I entered it back in July. I had already created a tv drama a couple of months before this came along but was finding it hard to secure representation so this competition was a stroke of luck for me. I've had the pilot written for ages and have also written 5 other episodes.

Royal Mail always brag that it's 1 day, but I'd say 1 - 3 days is a first class average.

You'd better send it quick, i.e. TODAY.
You've only got 'til Tuesday to get it there.

I think you're right. I'd better get cracking.
I'll just make a coffee first.

Sent mine this morning. I wrote 'I like Posties' on the envelope, so it should get there by Tuesday.

Good luck then. :)
