Interesting - if their paying well then fair enough but to write with your own pleasure in second place for pennies seems odd....or is the belief that NR, etc leads onto greater things? (is there a history of writers coming up from that route? I have no idea..serious question)

Alistair McGowan, Rory Bremner, Bill Bailey, Rob Newman, Nick Revell ...

And the list goes on. All wrote for Newsrevue at the start of their careers. Probably because they realised the chances of an unknown writer getting stuff straightaway on t.v. are minimal. Much better to learn the craft by seeing your precious lines live or die in front of an audience. The money is crap, but the amount you learn is even more, dare I say, than from an internet critique forum.

I think the first 3 were performers rather than writers weren't they?

There's a good article on NewsRevue on wikipedia:

They were both writers and performers for Newsrevue.

See the Newsrevue website:

"Our writing alumni includes Alistair McGowan, Rory Bremner, Bill Bailey and Rob Newman."
