Video converter. kinda

Hey guys, like I've been saying for the past few weeks I finally got round to filming some of my script with a mate of mine.

Anyways we are at the stage of editing etc. and we have run into a problem, we have a VRO file that we need converting to anything playable and editable. The only one that we have found so far leaves a massive flashing watermark in the middle which makes the video look less professional.

We don't really want to pay money as we're kind of on a budget, I'm mostly directing this at the slaggs as I know you guys make a lot of your own stuff.

But obviously any help welcome thanks!

Hmmmm, I've never heard of a VRO file as a media format? What software do you use?

Hi Paul

No idea what you're talking about ;)

But the following seems to have a bit of advice: http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-15908.html

Hope this is helpful

Dan

It's a DVD camcorder samsung.

by the way my mate who understands this more is answering and messing with this thread.

DVD recording are normally VOB not VRO Files, anyhow I’ve used software called Mpeg-Vcr it’s not free but is cracked (apparently) this seems to handle most format, if it doesn’t recognise VRO just try changing the .vro to .vob and see what happens

Mpeg-Vcr is a bit basic but easy and quick to use

They also make Mpeg VCR Wizard

I've moved this thread to General Discussion.

Like everyone else, I've never heard of .vro files. Is it a proprietary format dictated by your equipment (camera / editor)?

The Slaggs use a DV camera with the output directly imported (via firewire card and cable). The file is uploaded as a wav or avi (depending on if I'm using Windows Movie Maker (free with XP) or Adobe Premiere Pro) as the editor software. Both have pros and cons. WMovieMaker is good for fast and easy editing with quick turnaround. If it's more complex and I'm multi-tracking audio / video with crossfades etc, then I'll use Premiere.

Once it's edited, I export: WMM exports as a .wmv file; Premiere exports as an avi, that I convert to .wmv or .wav in Windows Media Encoder. Most websites want it in 320x240 at 25 frames per second (PAL format). But this looks crappy on a TV, so I export a second at 720x35(? not sure of last digit off top of head) to keep for DVD distribution.

I have yet to find a really good cheap way of transferring these to DVD (most of my movies go direct to internet sites so I've rarely mastered to DVD. Each time I frig it a different way and can never retrace my path twice.)

Can any one suggest a good dvd authoring program? Gav suggested DivX but it threw Adobe Premiere into a right state.

I don't know any DVD authoring software unfortunately, i'm hoping someone posts a link to one myself. I've got a few links here to some free converters I use that might be useful.

This might help.

When I'm working with video, I export (via a few programs) to .avi (XviD codec), then stick onto a data DVD. However, my Dad often authors his own DVDs, and just uses Nero to do so. You can pick up a legal copy for less than £10 from somewhere like Ebuyer.

Probably of no help whatsoever of course, sorry!

I have sent this link to Sam and he is looking through it as I type... he can make more sence of it than me.. thanks again guys
