Royal Family.

I admit this is a bit weak, but I wanted to see if the basic idea had legs.

GRAMS THE ROYAL FAMILY

PHIL, CAMILLA, AND THE QUEEN ARE EATING CHIPS

PHIL

Fancy another mug of Krug, my sweet.

QUEEN

Phil, we're down to our last £320,000,000, and that tight fisted, Lying Scotsman is holding out on my £40,000,000.

PHIL

It is Tesco value Krug, and we've got plenty of Corgis, to eat still.

CAMILLA

I'm 93 don't you know.

QUEEN

Shut up Camilla.

CHARLES ENTERS

Well mummy, I'm saving money. I only travel by train.

PHIL

You blithering idiot, it's no saving if it's your own private train.

QUEEN

And I can't even afford a TV licence. Nothing to watch but the changing of the guard.

Sorry? What basic idea?

Oh contrasting the royal and royale family, to emphasise how ridiculous the queens pleading poverty is.

Thought it was a bit weak, I guess critique is the best place to find that out.

Hmm. I didn't really get the Royle family reference on first read. But the Royals as the Royles has been done before.

the sketch was not all that funny and i'm not sure on the idea - as far as i read the royal costs have inflated and the palace justified it....i think suggesting the royals are pleading poverty feels like bending the story another way to fit the gag.

n.b. if I ever needed advice on how to fill in benefit forms, Liz would be top of my pile.

You know I thought the Royle/Royal gag had been, but wasn't sure.

I suppose if this was a better skit, it might bear repetition, but it isn't really so there.

Thanks all

I really liked the Camilla line and response if that helps.

:)

Fairplay, it's bit like the GWB monkey joke, you just know some one's done it before.

And Royale Family Theme is what I was thinking of.

I think it suffers more from a weak over all punch.

I didn't know that Royals had been done as the Royles before.

I am sure it has, but I cannot recall by whom. May have been someone like Bremner or Culshaw.

I think this is a no go because as mentioned earlier the Royal Family as the Royle Family was done (very well) by Alistair Macgowan in his BBC series.

That's cool I never watched the show, it's in the bin, never ever to see the light of day again.

You should check it out though, it's a really good series of sketches, The guy who does Duke of Edinburgh (as Jim Royle) is particularly good.

Will do Phil the Greek is a fab comedy character himself.

Some of Macgowan's stuff was really clever, especially when transplanting characters from one TV show into another. His recreation of Dot Cotton from Eastenders as Albert Steptoe was genius.

[EDITED - no-one spotted the deliberate mistake?]
